Ok.... I tried w/an awl but felt like the awl was going to break before the clip came apart from the cable ends. The awls leverage ability is obviously not much (because of it's length/diameter), but something longer/thicker didn't seem to fit.

I guess I'll spray everything down & try again now that I know the clips are available.
