I stripped a 2004 GMC Savana 2500 and put the wiring harness, steering column, dash cluster, fuel pump and motor and trans into my 68 shortbed.

If you could post a picture of the steering column in question, I could probably give you a better answer. I removed the column shift, and installed a B&M light truck mega shifter. The two-wire sensor on the back of the shifter for mine was only a neutral safety switch.
