Look on the front pass. side of the block for a small machined platform. On that platform is stamped the engine suffix code, usually a series of numbers followed by 2 or 3 letters. Look up the letters at this site:

and you can get more specific info on your engine block than Mortec can provide with the other number, ie. the raised casting on the back of the block. Hell, the number on mine spans a 10 yr. period.
