What does it all mean????? ohhhhh the humanity!

I know how to fix these motors but i don't know anything about how to ID them.

The 350 long block was Remand by FliteLine Motors of Fort Smith, Ark.
Tags say:
- tested on 6-10-99
- Purchased on 6-9-99
- bore 060
- Mains 020
- rods 020
- Oil press 58
- oil flow 32
- Amps 12
- Compression all eight at 210

My new 350 long block has these numbers on it:

On the block it has 14010207
on the heads it has 39998991

mortec.com says that the block is a 350 from years 80-85 and can be a 2 or 4 bolt main. Other sites tell me that this block was designed for passenger cars like the malibu or the camaro and that it was for an 80-84

I can tell that the Dip Stick is on the Passenger side of the block.
It came w/ a complete set of gaskets and an oil pump.
a set of solid metal exaust gaskets came w/ it as well but i don't think that they're gaskets, so then what are they?



i'm still trying to find out about the heads the only thing i've found so far is that they're from 1968-76 307-350 engines


what does chamber mean?

what does CFM mean?

you guys tell me what to put on this thing.
what do i need to get this running. Mind you I don't have alot of cash.

I know i want to put an edlebrock preformer intake and 600-650 CFM carb on it. I Just bought another 68 and it came w/ Ramhorn Exaust so for now i'll stick w/ that.

will put more on as i get it or think to ask

hp= horsepower
chamber= the cylinder where the piston rides
cfm= size of the carburator (has to do with the air/fuel ratio it pulls)

CFM= cubic feet per minute, how flow is measured threw carbs, intakes, head ports...etc.

CC= A measure used to measure space, I cant remember how many ML there are in a CC, 100 or 200. Any way it mostly used to measure combustion chamber and piston volume......to figure compression ratio.

HP= horse power....measured as torgue X RPM '/. 5250

i haven't any parts to id except the block and heads, I'm just looking for the year of them and what i can an cannot put on them.

I was just stating that the Dipstick hole is on the passenger side.

chambes is the combustion chamber size..its measured in cc's..its the cut out part of the bottom of the head where the valves and spark plugs are. 991 heads are run of the mill smog heads..nothing to write home about. The more cc's the chamber has..the less compression

There should be a date code on the block and heads. I believe it is the last digit. (D-19-8) would be april 19th 1968 or 1978. Just an example, if you find that code # post it on here.

the only thing i found on the block that resembles was h38 and directly below it was 509 those numbers were found on the rear of the motor right beside the driver freeze plug and then i found 207 under neath the other freeze plug on the rear and on the top of the rear part of the block behind the heads on the pass side was 141

on the heads i found the number above and then GM then below that was 70 and then somewhere else i found 866 and then on the pass if ound on the outside of the head stamped on the front of the head MH5132 and on the driver i found MH5148 thats all i've got maybe a few more. thanks sswj

Look on the front pass. side of the block for a small machined platform. On that platform is stamped the engine suffix code, usually a series of numbers followed by 2 or 3 letters. Look up the letters at this site:

and you can get more specific info on your engine block than Mortec can provide with the other number, ie. the raised casting on the back of the block. Hell, the number on mine spans a 10 yr. period.
