I'm not an expert but i talked to a bunch of driveshaft guys about doing a 1 piece when i did my tranny swap. From what i've read on this board the 1 piece swap will rub on that carrier piece if the truck is ever loaded down and you go over a bump.
Driveshaft guys told me you need at least a 4" shaft if you're thinking metals. However there is a company out here (so cali) that makes carbon fiber shafts, for the life of me i cant remember the name now but i'll probably remeber later. Anyways with the strength of that stuff you migth be able to get away with a smaller diameter and handle the power great. Either way it'll be a decently priced venture going to a 1 piece shaft.
The driveshaft guys just said "They're made that way for a reason and you should stick with it in my opinion" like 3 shops said that same thing. Ehh you want it man go for it!
Good Luck!
