Well, I thought I had a drive tire with a bad belt but apparently it was the transmission as it finally blew up. I don't know if there was some maintenance that could have saved it if I had diagnosed it correctly. There was a little "hop" under acceleration up hill, and an occasional "rumble strip" noise at cruising.
