v6 GMC information needed
I found a 67 GMC today with the V6 in it. I know I have seen posts on these but the search feature for the V6 and V6 GMC give me nothing.
Any help is appreciated. BTW: this truck ahs been parked a long time but engine turned over by hand. Thanks,

Re: v6 GMC information needed
The site below is the online bible for GMC V6's!
http://www.6066gmcguy.org/ The only two engines available in a pickup were the 305E and the 351E for '67. The 305 is by far the most common. Both are torquey, but the 351 is a brute. What the details on the truck?

The truck was parked a long time ago by the son of the owner. owner died son died. No title so it will be either a parts truck or a bonded title is in its future. The cab is solid the doors are solid and I mean I could not find a spec of rust. Howeve the cowel is full of leaves so there may be hidden issues. Price is right it has the correct 67 hood and grill but has had a front body clip swap at some time and repainted white to match the front clip. No SPID on glove box. I dont know which engine it has but it does have the TOTT set up with what looks to be a full gauge package. It was a farm truck so its got its share of body damage but again is very solid with the only rust I found under the battery tray and the RH cup. I'll sit on it for a day or two and see if I cant live w/out it. Was excited about the V6 now not so sure. Gas Guzzler V6? I'll take my 454 although it would be something you dont see but once in a blue moon. Thanks,

Re: v6 GMC information needed
There is no SPID on your glovebox because most '67 GMC's never came with one. As to which engine you have, look just forward of the passenger side head on the block and you will see the serial number. you will see either 305E or 351E somewhere in that number. That will be the size of your engine.

Re: v6 GMC information needed
mine had a 305 originally, then a 351, now it has a 350. the v6's are definitely different than a v8, but they are fun and have a different sound to them. The other thing is they are indestructible as long as you keep the rpm's down.

Re: v6 GMC information needed
I tried to call the guy that purchased all the cars. The seller told me the guy was going to take them into town try to part them out then crush them all and gave me the number to his shop.
I left a message at the shop but dont think that I'll get a return call. The guy that answered the phone knew of me, as the "other guy" looking at the 67 GMC. But, said that he wanted to look over the truck before they make any decisions on to part or sell complete. After that wonderful conversation, I called the origional seller back and he told me the buyer had a guy interested in the GMC which is why he came out. SO Long way around, but I think it may not make it to me. I left my number and all I can do it wait.

Re: v6 GMC information needed
Is there demand for these motors? I have one that I have had for a long time and tried getting rid of. Do I just take it to the junk yard? Or is there a site other than Craigslist and Ebay to put it on?

i absolutely love these engines, but think they might be monster gas eaters; Just to throw something in, my last monte carlo with the buick 231 v-6, i could only get about 19 mpg. So 6 cylinders does not automatically mean good mpg. i know 19 is not bad, but comparitively speaking it would seem it should get higher because i had another monte carlo with the chevy 305 and it also got 19mpg---but with 74 more cubes. At the same token when you factor in (let's assume the original owner) that you didn't have a truck payment or have to buy a new engine for 40 years, then maybe that makes up for the high gas bill. And this engine (the truck in question) looks like it still runs or could be made running rather easily. Also, all these trucks going for so cheap? What's going on in Texas? Re: v6 GMC information needed
i just thought of something else----would maybe modifying the exhaust help with mpg with these engines? You know like maybe headers or duals?

Re: v6 GMC information needed
Shocked to get a call from the :NEW: owner today. He said his buddy did not want the truck as it was not a stepside and has that "GOD AWFULL" V6 in it.
So its mine to purchase if I want it. 400 dollars...

Looks to me like it's well worth $400.
Might want to make sure the engine isn't stuck first. Lee

Re: v6 GMC information needed
Around here that truck would be worth what he is asking without the engine and transmission.
'67s are pretty hard to find here, especially GMCs. Danny

Re: v6 GMC information needed
I cant get to him till Monday based on where its located. However, the guy turned out to be pretty nice about it and said that since i was there looking at it when he bought the guy out of all of his cars, and his buddy didn't want it afterall, that he would hold it for me till Monday afternoon.
If I dont stop by to make the transaction he is going to put the truck out in his yard. He scraps cars out and does auto repair out of a little shop near by. So I have a day or two to think about it. Even w/out a title the cab is in superior shape. The front clip less the lower RH fender is amazing also.

Re: v6 GMC information needed
I've had a couple of them (305's) and they are great motors for hauling/pulling, etc. and are designed to run practically forever. They make great torque and will pull from as low as just off idle. Not very economical though as 6's go...so go ahead and put on a big 2bbl carb and enjoy!

Re: v6 GMC information needed
Thanks for the info on the engine. I will check it out. I know me, I live with me on a daily basis. The truck will find it's way onto my trailer. "Honey, I dont know where it came from, it followed me home"
Oh one other thing. Someone apparently added power steering to this truck, it looks to have a PS pump added (non 67 Style Slave cylinder) with brackets that look factory. Did the V6 engines get power steering. NO SPID to check out.

Re: v6 GMC information needed
Having owned a few GMC V-6's over the years I have found my best MPG to be about 14 in a 3/4 ton truck. That is while running tall. skinny tires with about 60 lbs. of air pressure, 3:54 rear gears, manual trans. and dual exhaust. You will not sacrifice any bottom end torque with duals if you run small diameter pipe, say 1 5/8".

Re: v6 GMC information needed
Ok assume I am gong to get the truck, and get a bonded title for it. Assume the engine does not turn over or I cant get it started. Is this thing going to be next to impossible to get parts for a rebuild?
I have plenty of parts trucks to get v8 and I6 doner parts for, If i do a swap would I hve to change the transmission in addition to motor mounts or would it bolt to an I6 or V8 platform?
