Is this goign to shake my motor apart?
Edit: 1970 C10 SBC 350 stock.
so i just installed a new harmonic balancer from NAPA and new underdrive pulleys. Went from a single to triple to get ready for AC and PS. My old balancer was bad. I used the proper puller to remove it and the proper instillation tool to install it. I also torqued the balancer bolt to 60 ft lbs and the pulley bolts to 25 ft lbs. From research this seemed to be correct from research I did. Here is a short video. Sorry I don't know how to embed the video. https://youtu.be/KvmisCygQbA Last edited by C1ph3r; 02-06-2017 at 08:00 PM. |

If you complain loud enough and long enough, they might pay your labor and materials. They do it for their commercial accounts.
It in no way makes up for lost time. http://www.corporateofficeheadquarte...dquarters.html Read the first comments |

Re: Is this goign to shake my motor apart?
without knowing what part # you got.. and what engine you have...
hard to tell.. Isn't all h/b the same as far as balancing weight other than for the sbc 400. same with the bbc other than the 454.. I know the sbc had different diameters balancers.. but that it didn't have a balance weight on them other than the 400c.i.d. that had it on the h/b and flex plate/flywheel |

Re: Is this goign to shake my motor apart?
Oh sorry. I meant to put that in the first post. I have the original SBC 350. I know I have the correct part. Im worried about the wobble.

Re: Is this goign to shake my motor apart?
I don't see much wobble there. Is it worse than what you had before? I've seen plenty of engines that had a little wobble and never had a problem.

Re: Is this goign to shake my motor apart?
I guess I'm with those that don't see it. I used one of these when I replaced my balancer. There's an 8" option there too, http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/se...Redirect=2316P

Re: Is this goign to shake my motor apart?
To me it looks like the pulley is moving more than the balancer. Either way it's not bad enough to worry about.
Do you feel vibrations you didn't feel before ?

thanks a lot guys. I really appreciate all the feedback.

Sounds good to me. Quote:
Thats what I was thinking that it was more the pulley. Wasnt sure if the pulley would move without the balancer moving. Honestly I dont feel any more vibrations in the truck than I did before. Under the hood the thing runs like a top. I think it would be quieter than a Honda under there if it wasnt for the fan. Its running better than ever. But then again I did a few things all at once. |

Re: Is this goign to shake my motor apart?
I would run it a while then re-torque the bolt but as others have said I don't see any problem.

Re: Is this goign to shake my motor apart?
I don't see any wobble. As long as you dnot have a oil leak and all the bolts are tight then you're all good to go!
You will know right away when you started the engine if something was wrong. If it runs smooth at idle and while going down the road then you should be all good. |

Re: Is this goign to shake my motor apart?
You might pull the pulleys off & make sure it is seated good. Turn it 60 degrees. I have found aftermarket pulleys often to not be true.

Re: Is this goign to shake my motor apart?
Thanks so much everyone. I was in a bit of a panic. I may pull and replace the bolt and rotate the pulleys. It is a 2 piece pulley.

Re: Is this goign to shake my motor apart?
having nothing to compare it too other than how it sounded or felt before, there is no difference. so must all be good. just my paranoia
thanks. seems to be the common consensus. |

Re: Is this goign to shake my motor apart?
Here's a link from stingrayforum , it has good description on checking " runout " on harmonic dampener with factory specs ( for 6.2 and 6.0 ) . If the wobble was something that was going eat at you and if you had access to a magnetic dial indicator it would be fairly easy to tell exactly how much wobble you have , or like previously stated " run it like you stole it "
Good luck . https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...Qd8JCezprCxKPA |
