L83/6l80 going into 64 Crew Cab
Morning all!
Picked up a 2014 l83 and 6l80e yesterday to go into dad's crew cab. His 350/7004r just isn't cutting the mustard and needs to go. Asking for any concerns or roadblocks before we get started. Gonna go with a Walbro 255 and probably some hooker LSX headers, dingo sliders...am I missing anything?

Re: L83/6l80 going into 64 Crew Cab
Because it isnt an LS engine, its a new LT, there are a lot of differences. Should be a cool swap!

Re: L83/6l80 going into 64 Crew Cab
Thanks for that! I'll look into that!
So if it's like an LT motor do regular LT headers work?

Re: L83/6l80 going into 64 Crew Cab
If you're talking about an LT1 from the 90's, no, theyre gen2 small blocks. The new LT's are gen 5, dont ask me why GM cant come up with new names instead of reusing old ones but remember there was alos an LT1 from arround 1970! Member 87chevy.com has a thread on here where he's putting a new LT engine in his truck, you should take a look at it.

Re: L83/6l80 going into 64 Crew Cab
This thread has a lot of info on the L83.
http://www.lingenfelter.com/forum_li...mponent-images May need to rethink the fuel situation. According to it: "The L83 runs a mechanical fuel pump off of an extra lobe on the camshaft. The pump is mounted at the back of the engine in the valley. The pump is fed low pressure fuel by a PWM controlled electric fuel pump mounted in the fuel tank." There are pics in the link |

When I emailed Speartech about the new Gen V motors to see if there was anything special required for the fuel pump, they said you just want to spec a pump that is capable of supporting around 75 psi, with a good flow rate.

Re: L83/6l80 going into 64 Crew Cab
Yes, will throw in some pix in a few days.
We had real bad issues getting the trans calibrated, I think it was a harness issue but no one will admit to that. Got the tuning all done and then had to wait, 105 plus heat I just can’t do any more! Got the harness back on, TCM back in, PCM in and she fires! Yeah! But! Always a but, the Bosch fuel pump is screaming like a banshee! I’m told now it needs -8 or larger fuel line( Geesh!) also not sure if the pump is actually below the fuel level, so tomorrow or Saturday maybe. Now putting in the Speed Hut CanBus guages( must use the canbus guages) Took it out for a short drive to make sure it was shifting right. Plenty more to do. I’ll put a parts used list up when I get the big boy squared away.

Re: L83/6l80 going into 64 Crew Cab
I'm running a walbro F10000302 in the stock tank and location, sounds like a normal factory intank pump. Running an external 5 bar regulator, all -6 an lines. Glad to hear the trans issue is sorted.

Re: L83/6l80 going into 64 Crew Cab
Thanks Clint and nsb29, I am working on moving the pump, adding larger feed line for the pump and then guages. Never ends!
And I have to put my truck back together after paint!!
