My Dad's '61 Chevy

When I was a little kid, the truck I grew up on was my dad's '61 Chevy pickup. I remember quite a bit about this truck. Not everything, but quite a bit. I can tell you this was no ordinary '61 Chevy. It was a complete and utter rat rod.
To begin, the only piece of the '61 left, was the frame. Which my dad kept because of the torsion bar front suspension. It had the cab off of a '65, the front clip off of a '64, and the bed was off of a '55. 350 V8 engine out of a 1981 Corvette, and a Turbo 400 transmission. Gas tank came out of the cab and my dad put one under the bed.
Also had a home-made rear bumper, with big ass Yosemite Sam mudflaps. I found some old pics of it so ANYWAY enough blabbering. Let's get started with the pics!

These are all early '90s in our driveway in Sacramento, CA.

Can't see it all too well, but he ran the hose for the gas tank up through the step-side fender.

Thanks for sharing the old photos. Just goes to show for some of us these trucks have been popular for a long time.

Wish he still had it. He actually put that truck together to be my first truck when I was able to drive. He put it together in 1993 or so. So I was a baby, about 2. He sold it in about 2004 when I was 13, because California gave him multiple tickets for having it parked outside on the grass.
Kind of funny, I can easily remember sitting in the seat and staring down at the one hole in the floor pan, and staring at the tire.

Anyhoo, I have more pics:

These are all-around shots my dad took right before he put primer on the truck. He ran 295/50 wides all around. BF Goodrich on the front, Dunlop on the back. Home-made bumper and hitch, and everyone's favorite big ass Yosemite Sam mudflaps.
And there's still more. Lol

Re: My Dad's '61 Chevy

Next up, the few pics of my grandpa [mom's dad] spraying the primer:

By the way, since somebody is probably going to ask, the tail lights my dad used for his home-made bumper, are the tail lights off of a 60-66 fleetside bed.

Re: My Dad's '61 Chevy

Here's some pics from Feb. 1995, moving to Missouri from Cali the first time. We moved from CA to MO in Feb. 95, then moved back to CA in Nov. 95, and moved back to Missouri in June 2006. Still here, too! Anyway, here's the pics.
These two are the truck and trailer loaded up, the day we left Cali.

These two are random stops. One of them was at a hotel, the other, I have no clue.

The rest, are after we got to Missouri. The truck was covered in ice.
