1 of 1 truck?

I finally found a 4x4 longbed stepside that isn't rusted out. I know these are rare, but this is the only one I've seen with these options. I have found breakdowns of the year and model but none with option lists... Any help would be apreciated.
Its a 1970 cst-10 4x4 long stepside with the 350, factory air, marker light cab (only c10 I've seen with them) and she's hugger orange.

Re: 1 of 1 truck?

With paint that looks that nice its either a very nice survivor or a truck thats been redone. If its been redone, it may have been reconfigured to be a CST with air, lights, stepside, etc. Is the SPID there? That would tell you what it was, unless it too was redone.

If it really is original, yes its a rare truck to be configured like that, only about 10% of trucks were 4x4 in 1970. Then only a fraction of those were CST's, and only a fraction were stepsides.

Re: 1 of 1 truck?

I've only seen one other half ton with marker lights. My dad had a 71 k/10 custom lwb that had the markers when I was a kid. That is a real nice find man. You can't beat hugger that's for sure!

Re: 1 of 1 truck?

SPID = Service Parts Indentification Decal. Should be located inside glove box door. This helps learn the factory history of the vehicle. Longbed stepsides are super functional and often under appreciated, condition trumphs configuration, in my book.

Re: 1 of 1 truck?

Its original paint, I'll post the spid in a bit. Its a very nice original out of nevada. Seat has been recovred but that's about it. I'm looking to see if there was ever another one like it or if it is truly a 1 of 1. I wasn't told that it was, but I believe it to be and just want to make sure if at all possible

Re: 1 of 1 truck?

I've seen several 1/2 tons with marker lamps. I have said on here before my brothers and all their friends it was a rage back then to have them it must have been a local redneck type thing fore this isolated group. but to them the roof lamps was more sought after than say a tilt column or FM music. I remember one in particular it was hugger white hugger and white with roof lamps and tilt. I think my brother had that one and loved it dearly. Jim

Re: 1 of 1 truck?

There is no way to break down production numbers by options. I've seen several 1/2 tons with factory marker lights, I would say it's less common to see a long bed stepside CST. Most I have come across were plain Jane trucks, usually ordered by farmers back in the day.

I do not believe there's any surefire way to verify that there was never another built just like that. Awesome truck though!!!! Dual spots too!

Re: 1 of 1 truck?

While it is a rare combination of options you will never be able to prove its the "only one". Even if you were it adds about zero to its value.

To some extent most optioned up heavier (20-30) or 4x4 trucks are rare if you try and break it down to individual option combinations on specific models. Less so on the more personal sized 10 series.

While a CST stepside is a rare beast I dare say you are much more likely to see the option on a CK10 than say a CK20 or C30.

As examples: Is this Black K10 CST more rare? Probably if you factor in the optional half lower bodyside molding. But does it's factory block heater trump A/C?

Maybe the CST/30 stepside buried in my data collection with a 396 close ratio four speed and A/C is a "1 of 1". Probably is if you consider the 503 green paint or buckets seats too.

The point is there are many variations of models and RPO options. If you were to try and include the service options as well there are many with very unique builds.

Re: 1 of 1 truck?

That is truly a rare truck. It is true there's no way to prove if it is one of one. It very well may be. I would bet it is very possible that is the only truck in that color with those exact options. There was just no break down on options

True today...not necessarily tomorrow. These long step 4x4's are getting very hard to find. A lot of people I meet today haven't seen one before. They were rare to start and many have been converted to short steps, etc. Besides I think the long steps give a lot more utility and look better when lifted, just my opinion.

This all depends on who is looking to buy. Although the bulk of the herd only care for a shortbed, there are those who like what they like despite the herd, or just know their trucks and what is or isn't rare. A true truck guy loves them all because they are all trucks. There are shortbed guys (usually car converts) then there are truck guys (usually like shortbeds as cars). A real truck guy would pay for the rarity, now, yesterday, and especially tomorrow. And long Stepside 4wds are just plain cool

Well said, X2. A real pickup truck enthusiast will appreciate the value of a clean well optioned piece of history. ( I'm still drooling over that C 30 stepside SS Tim posted as well)

That c30 is cool, and I have to say I'm tempted with that 9 ft stepside bed to do a c30 4x4 someday....

hmmm... then there were the "not-so-sure-its-a-bed" guys, kinda of lost in the netherworld of indecision!

now if it's done right, and I've only seen a few, an El Camino will get my vote, but for the most part it just never looked right to me.

these things are absurd imo...

I might differ with this ...

A CST 402BB - Turbo 400 - Buckets - Factory AC - and so on would be worth more money than just a SWB truck.

Now a SWB truck with the above options - Yes it would likely be more desirable although I like LWB trucks.

Come to think about it I like all the trucks whether its a SWB or LWB

Only sad if you are trying to buy a SWB or sell a LWB.

Perfect if you are buying a LWB 4x4!

Thumbs up Re: 1 of 1 truck?

thats the first CST longbed stepside i've seen. i've seen plenty of shortbed stepside CST's, cheyenne and cheyenne supers over the years but never a long stepper, especially a 4x4 version. very cool truck.

Aside from the desert southwest, 4x4,s, expecially K20's in good original condition, often exceed 2x4 swb's in same condition.
