How to install front fender seals

I purchased a set of front fender to cab seals for my 69 pick up, but there wasn`t any instrcutions about how to install them, I need some manual or instructions to install

This is the description from supplier (Classic Parts)
67-72Die-stamped rubber seals that fit between the rear edge of the front fender & cab. Originally used on deluxe pickups only.

Re: How to install front fender seals

Attached are two pictures of the driver's side which I borrowed off the board. IIRC they are stapled to a sheet metal piece which is screwed to the cab.

I have only found the metal plates the seals attach to on 71-72 Trucks only and not all of them. But you must have the plates to mount the seals.

Re: How to install front fender seals

I recently pulled mine off of my 72 Blazer. They have the metal pieces as well. I am assuming they are fully original and in the factory location but I can't swear to it. Sorry the pictures were taken more to show the rust.

Re: How to install front fender seals

Hears a scan of the factory drawing that was used by the factory for assembly from (1967-1972 CHEV/GMC Truck Factory Assembly Instruction Manual) maybe this will help you. When this option was first used I do not know but this drawing shows it modified a previous seal installation on 9-8-70. So if I had to guess when this option was available I would say 1970 to 1972.

I would defiantly recommend this book to any one that wants to see what the factory did for installing the parts and wiring. The only drawback is the book does not have an index to find what you are looking for or modification made during the years. You just have to go thru it page by page to find what you need. Wes (a site vendor) at Classic Heartbeat has the book, he lists it as (67-72 Factory Assembly Manual) http://www.classicheartbeat.com/books,_vidio,_cds.htm

The title of the drawing is 1971 TRUCK "C-K" SERIES 3975764
with an original date of 4-4-70 and a revision of 9-8-70.
I think 1971 was the first year for the seals.

It must have been '70, because my '70 CST has them.

Re: How to install front fender seals

the seals were generally found on upper optioned cabs, so most do not have them, and is a good way to tell if truck is original cheyenne etc. they are pieces not repoped but most don't know they exist.

OK, I do not want to be a silent idiot. What to these seals do? I have been aware of them before, but just wonder are they for noise or dirt?

Both

I have mainly seen these seals on Cheyenne/ Sierra trucks, not the lower end trucks. I just parted a 71 Cheyenne tha had hem i kept the sheetmetal pieces since they are not being reproed as far as I know.

Re: How to install front fender seals

On trucks without- especially with clutch fan there is actually blow through -for lack of a better term- that is felt into the cab from the engine compartment. These seals prevent that from happening as well as the dirt/debris issue. I think that the seals may have been part of the comfort/convience option like the under dash insulation found in the higher end trucks. All adds to the reduction of noise and increases the comfort level- aiding in the move from utilitarian to the modern comfort these trucks helped Chevy move toward. They require the special brackets as stated earlier that are not repoped. The seals come with thick/heavy staples that hold them onto the sheet metal bracket. I jave yet to be able to use the staples that are sent with these and instead use a heavy insulation staple from Lowes. They require 14 or so staples per bracket and I install them by inserting and then bending with a punch. You must have the brackets for the seals to install correctly and there is a specific bracket for each side. They simply install with a couple of screws into the cowl region as pictured in the build manual schematic. Hardest part are the staples.

Any one got a drawning of the the special brackets that are not repoped. Maybe someone can mock one up?

I have a set of the brackets, but trying to do a drawing is easier said than done. If you take a look at the drawing from the Chevy assembly manual that was posted above, i think you will see what I mean.

Re: How to install front fender seals

There was a member on here a couple years ago that was making the metal brackets up and trying to sell them.
He did not get many takers at the time.
I can't remember his name but he did show picture of his product.

My experience with re-pop seals and factory brackets 3 times now has been a lesson in frustration right up to the dissapointing final fit. (I prolly threw a fit too!)

After inspecting a simular bracket that was in a parts box that came along with the truck I think I have a winner always wondered if it even belonged to the truck

Re: How to install front fender seals

Hoping someone can help with the fasteners.

1. How many fasteners are there actually, per side?
2. Are they all the same size?
3. What are the "spacers" exactly?

I got from a forum member (Jeff's bowtie's) the seal/bracket and I think some/most of the screws are present but no spacers. I'll be replacing the rubber part for sure (the existing rubber gives me a great guide how to deal with the staples).

The assembly page in a few posts back mostly confusing me where/what/how the screws are used. Perhaps the two screws listed as [2] with a [3] has spacers, then anything with a [A] means the same screw but no spacer?
