Is my truck rare??

So I just picked up a 2002 LS reg cab short bed with the 5.3 v8
whenever I get a new vehicle I tend to browse the internet looking for photos and stuff with the same options and I cant find anything unless its in truckin magazine.

anyways I went to some vin decoding site and it shows the build sheet of your truck and also shows how many same model trucks were built total and how many match the same options you have in your truck.
That being said there were 160 some thousand swb 1500 chevys registered and only "3" with matching options that i have.

the most common thing I find with these shortbed reg cabs is the 4.8 motor not the 5.3

sorry just curious if I dont know how to search the web or if my truck is a bit rare

mines a 2wd , which is what I wanted for my project
gonna lower it

I just thought most people buying the 2wd shorty would use it as a shop truck and not opt for the 5.3...just a thought

they are real popular among younger generations also and so being young you always want the biggest and baddest

No such thing as a reg cab SS, although a few people have built them. SS's aren't rare anyway. Joe Gibbs are sorta rare.

And really, no trucks are rare these days, with the numbers of them built. Sure you could nitpick every single option, but with the numbers of options available these days owners can order them to their liking in any combination, doesn't necessarily make them rare.

Now some colors you could consider rare, such as SOM.

I look at owner optioned trucks as being oddballs sometimes rather than rare. Some people just know what they want and get it.

My brother had an "odd ball" 2006 Silverado 3500 Duramax Crew Cab Long Bed. LT package, heated and power leather, sun roof, bose audio, extending towing mirrors, signals in the mirrors, DIC/radio controls, EVERYTHING, still had rubber floors and painted steel wheels (I thought someone swapped the wheels at the dealership, but nope, PYO was not on the spid.)

Oh and when I took my truck in for warranty work, my loaner was a 03-05 regular cab short bed LS with the 5.3, checked the spid for option "LM7" and it had it.

If it had a 5 speed it would be rare.

Re: Is my truck rare??

I put my s10 VIN in that same website, or at least one similar, and it said the same thing, only 2 or 3 other trucks "exactly" like mine. I highly doubt it. S10's are as rare as a drunk at a nascar race.

Re: Is my truck rare??

I've got an '02 Regular Cab SWB with a 5.3 and a good friend of mine has the exact same truck in a different color... They may not be "common" but I don't know about rare. The body style is definitely harder to find with the 5.3... There are a ton of extended cab trucks out there but not near as many regular cabs.

Re: Is my truck rare??

The reason that they say rare is that the vehicles often have the RPO for the week, year, plant, or other code that another similar one made at a different time wouldn't have. You would have to select only those options that are main ones to see how rare it might be

Re: Is my truck rare??

No.

Actually, the reason we did the 4.8L was to have a V8 "base engine", or value leader, and then opt up to a 5.3L or 6.0L (if available). The intent was to keep the entry price down, and net a little bit better fuel economy.

What we found is most people buying pickups want the biggest engine they can get, so if the 5.3L was available people ended up stepping up to that.

Our evil plan was foiled.

Re: Is my truck rare??

The reality is, in this timeframe, we were building between 1.5 and 1.8 million trucks a year.

There really aren't any rare ones.

Re: Is my truck rare??

What makes it rare, as the vin decoder showed, is the combination of all the options your truck has. Color, assembly plant, combination of options, etc.. It's not that it's a rare truck so to speak, it's just that there are only 3 with all of the exact same setup as yours has.

When I ran my 03 1500HD on there it said there were 2 like mine. I have seen others almost identical, but they will have a console where mine doesn't, or different radio configuration, or something small like that.

Hope that clears it up some for you. In all honesty though it is different from all the other trucks though because it has your name on the title.
