Need some help from you short bed guys!!!

Now I have worked on enough trucks to know that a Blazer has a 104" wheelbase, a short bed has a 115" wheel base, and a long bed has a 127" wheelbase and Longhorn has a 133" wheelbase.
My dilemma is, I ordered a 67-70 Disk Brake Conversion Brake Line set from IN-Line Tube for a 68 GMC short bed truck. The intermediate brake line in the kit they sent me is 92" from the front of the line to where the bend is in the rear. That my friends is about 11" too short!!!
As you guys know, I have a Blazer in the shop, and a shortbed truck in the shop. I have measured the lines on both vehicles and the Blazer has a 92" line and the short box has a 113" line (give or take because of bends in the frame)
In-line tube is trying to tell me that the 92" line is correct for the short bed and have dug their heels in! They say that they sell that kit to all of the major catolog companies and haven't had a single complaint! That the brake line that came out of the GMC isn't an original, or if it is they don't have it in the books.
You guys know that a shot bed is a short bed! All 67-72s have the same wheelbase and have a single piece line that goes from the front end to the rear end!

So now what I need from you short bed guys is to measure your factory brake line that runs down the frame. Just the strait section from the front of the line to the bend in the rear and respond in this thread what measurement you came up with.

In-Line tube says that if I send the original line to them that they will duplicate it at no expence to us or my customer. However the catch is we have to ship it to them at our expence. Not realy a big deal unless you are someone who stands on their principals. Their line is wrong and that is that!! I, or my customer shouldn't have to eat any expence because of that!! I told them I would box up the line and they could issue a call tag if they wanted the sample, they declined. I gave them the new measurement with pictures and said just make a new line and they declined again! I told them that their line is flat wrong!! And they say that nobody else is complaining!!
Well lets start complaining!!
You guys as well as I want the best quality parts and we want them right!

So please take the measurement and reply with your demention in this thread. (you can call them toll free with your demention to 800-385-9452 and talk to customer service) This isn't just for my customer and I, it is for all of us who want our parts correct. If you are someone who has purchased a short bed kit from In-Line tube could you please chime in too. Especialy if you had to add a section to their line to make it work. Together we might just get this resolved!
Sorry for the long post, WES

Sounds like they sent the wrong one and won't admit it. I've dealt with them and that guy is a hard headed and rigid sumb...ugger. They do great work, but he does things one way and one way only. Sees things one way and one way only. They prefer to do only OEM spec lines, although they also do custom. I've had custom done and I had to about twist his arm to go ahead with it,even though I told him exactly how long the braided hose had to be and exactly which fittings to put on each end.

I agree! I've had problems with them also and as far as that guy is concerned they don't mess up. I ordered a complete stock replacement brake line kit for a 72. And the fittings that screwed into the front brake hoses weren't right. After days of emailing pics back and forth. They said there wasn't a problem, but if I shipped them the lines they'd put the fittings I wanted on them.

Needing to order a complete set of lines for a S/B D Brake converted 69 frame now supporting a 71 5 lug rear. So very interested in this. I destroyed my old lines with plans on a complete set.

Re: Need some help from you short bed guys!!!

I dont know if this is gonna help but both my 67 swb trucks have a threaded line coupler/union behind the front c member allmost in line with the firewall
from that fitting to the 90* bend in the rear it is 90" with the bend where the rear rubber line connects looks too be another 2".

My stepper has the oe line, my swb fleet we replaced it with a hand bent line so its a little more wavy. but from the same fitting to the rear it's still 90 1/2 but like mentioned the bend for the rear rubber line is about 2 more inches

hope you get this figured out

Re: Need some help from you short bed guys!!!

Would it be possible to get a picture of the front and rear of the lines? Enough to show the location relitive to the front crossmember? Also to the rear? WES

Re: Need some help from you short bed guys!!!

To me this is just poor customer service. You have the truck right in front of you and it doesn't fit. They have a list of measurements and specs. It might match their specs, but that doesn't make it right. And just cause know one has complained doesn't make it right. I mean, you could add a short peice of tubing to make it fit, but that doesn't make it right if you're going for exact factory correct.

Good luck!

Re: Need some help from you short bed guys!!!

I think your differance is the leaf spring frame
heres some pic's some are my swb 67 step it kinda shows the location of the front union. and one pic of the back. the other pics is a 71 lwb frame I have it has the same union in the front but the rear is the same except the rubber line is differnt on the rear axle

Re: Need some help from you short bed guys!!!

The funny thing is the 71/72 Coil spring trucks end in a different place in the rear. They end half way across the crossmember and the strait section is 103" long. WES

My '71 Shortbed Chevy with the optional leaf spring rear has everything to connect a coil spring set up on the chassis. This includes the brake line going half-way across the cross member.

Not all GMC's have leafs. This is a common misconception. I have an all original 71 GMC SWB with rear coils. I do agree that most GMC's had leafs.

On a related note, I did not know until recently that GM made 3/4 tons with coil rears. I sawone recently for the first time.

I have had problems with online tube. It had to do with the fuel pump to carb line for a 72 c10 350 with AC. I looked it up online and it had a listing for a 350 W/ AC with long water pump or SWP no AC. I figured the refer cento lwp was a misprint and ordered one for a "72 lwp w/Ac". I got the line and it was no way closet fitting. I called them and told them 72 didnt have lwp available yet. I told the rep the only difference was sb or bb, Ac or no Ac. He basically told memo didn't know what i was talking about. A few days later I looked it up again online and the website had been corrected with reference to lwp removed! I was more than miffed. I had to pay return shipping and they exchanged it.

I'll never buy anything else from them due to this.
