1967 C10 Custom Big Window
Finally getting around to putting the pics together and trying to do them in order. My build is a 67 Custom Big Window A/C truck, all original except for the rust. The truck was given to me (woohoo!!) by a great friend last September. I helped him clear a peice of land for a older gentleman who gave him the truck as payment. It wasn't pretty - I was stung 11 times by hornets and he gave me about $50 for helping him. Guess it paid off!!!!
Here is what has been done so far, and I will try to keep the pics coming and update them on a regular basis. The day he gave it to me it had been sitting at a body shop for about 5 years. I had the truck towed to the shop and realized it's potential. I thought a little paint a little interior.....nope....full teardown. I started at the rear, sandblasted then primed, painted and clear coated the frame.

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window
I didn't know what I was getting into
I pulled the front clip, suspension and core support. Just a matter of time......and time.....and time. Started the rockers, and finished pulling the cab.

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window
I have recently worked on the sheetmetal - rockers (inners and outers) floor pans, gas filler delete, bed stake holes delete, rear marker light delete, and just started the upper right roof rust delete.
I finished sandblasting and painting the chassis, and started installing the airbags and fuel cell. I did a disk brake 2.5 in drop spindle and added a 71 rearend for the 5 lugs. An adjustable tracbar was a must for the bags and may have to move the front crossmember forward about 1 inch.

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window
The front crossmember was already installed and now it has to be removed to move it forward suppose we all learn from these builds.....errrrrr. Well better to do it right the first time. The bags in the back were not quite as hard to figure out.
Well, the great Southern weather is not cooperating so 2 weekends without much progress. I will keep the posts and pics coming as the project progresses. Thanks for looking!

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window
I decided against moving the Xmember forward, it is more simple to shim the rear of the top a-arm and gain about 1 inch instead of going through all of the work and time of moving the Xmember forward to gain 1.25 inches. Also, tubular a-arms correct the geometry some too.

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window
Cool, thanks Scottmo! Didn't check it yet......may be time to pull out the cutting wheels!! I will take pics for everyone on the board as to where the crossrail is...as compared to the filler for a longbed. This site has helped tremendously during my build, keep up the great work everyone!!

What fuel cell did you go with? I'm debating whether to go with a plas
tic or steel tank. That tank look like it fits real well. Where did you order it from? Thanks Shawn |

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window
Thanks nuke1, feels good to have friends like that. Got the front valves for the airride working this weekend, small acheivements really give incentive and keep ya motivated! Was able to help my friend a little with his build this weekend, 71 Cutlass 442 Convertible.

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window
I didn't expect to find that much rust on top of the cab, and it's still not done.

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window
nice truck, I am in the middle of the same rebuild you are doing. I have got most of the body off and am at the point of sand blasting the frame from the rear the same as you. then i am getting the cab off to complete the body repairs. what advice can you give me?? My truck has an inline 6 cylinder i believe is a 250 CID. I have the numbers but am having trouble finding the meaning of everything.
Block: 3921968 G 277 con 2 then clock face at 5:00 Vin # is confusing, at oldride.com i thought i had it figured but my number is 12 total digits, CS148A103237 and the old ride decoder is giving me more numbers to look for mayber 15 or 16 numbers???? |

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window
Thanks Oarngesi, still wanting to see the motor between the frame rails. Should have it back at the end of this month. Still wondering if the rims will fit the bed when airred out?!!? 22s on the back may cause some clearance issues. My car has 17s and it dwarfs them.

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window
Sold the Studebaker!!!
Have a little $$$ to put in the projekt 67! Got some 72 Blazer seats for it and some new Custom badges for the doors. Paid the machine shop for the engine rebuild.....well, about half. Had to make another payment on my Yamaha R6, that I don't have anymore too. Well....at least I'm still here to make the payments!!!!!

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window
Thanks bro, wanted to make my first real project a frame-off. Got the windsheild out this past weekend and wanted to put it back.....rust at the top under the weatherstriping and the bottom. Got the top taken care of for the most part, but still have to work on the bottom. Found a great bodyman who comes to the shop and does some great sheetmetal work.

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window
It is from Summit Racing (SUM-290108) is the part number it is $153 bucks right now. It did take a little persuasion to fit....but only 3/4 of an inch or so off of the back crossmember on the passenger side from the center to the rail at an angle. Thanks for the props.....trying to keep the project goals in line!

You are lucky with the accident on the R6... I lost my best friend last March while he was riding his bike.
Anyway... back to a happy note. Awesome build! It looks like things are coming together nicely.

Thanks 72! I was worse than the bike! Things are working out nicely. Supposed to rain here in the Houston area for a couple of days.....again. Have you heard anything from bigmikescustomz, or his health?
