Anybody?
I just bought a 350 from my buddy. He said its supposed to have aftermarket rods and forged pistons. I pulled the oil pan and im thinking it looks like stock crap. The rods dont have any markings xcept AC in between the flat end of the cap and the rod bolt nut. The rod bolt nuts are 6 point and I was thinking ARP nuts were 12 or is that vise versa? Looking up inside the piston skirt I can see a S inside a shield looking emblem and a SA , also the bottom of the piston above the pin has a cross hatch, waffle sorta pattern in it like it was cast in it. It all does look fresh can still see where the cylinders were honed and very little scratching inside the cylinder. Anyway if any of you have any stock rods out could you check for the AC on the cap and look in piston skirts I would appreciate it. Can anyone id a block for me? CLU.

Realisticly(sp),....I suggest tearing it down to see actually what you have. If this is something you want to run right away, you can re-ring and bearing it!
It's always tough to buy from those who wont let you see what you are getting! My friend sells complete cores and he leaves them sealed from intake to pan! No returns, so I can feel for what you are experiencing! Pics will help greatly in ID'ing what you have if you havent already done so...

Is the AC casted into the rod cap or punched?
Do you know the suggested current bore, etc? .030, .010-.010? on the rod and main journals? What info did he give you? What year is the block, etc! Let us Know!

Well I just had a min to look before I go to work here is what I came up with on mortec,
3970010....302.....69....4...Z-28 Camaro 3970010....327.....69....2...Trucks and industrial 3970010....350...69-80...2 or 4 Im going to check into it some more this afternoon. Thanks for the link The AC is cast into the rod cap. |

The CLU suffix code denotes a 1973 350, California engine, 2 bbl, 165 hp and it was used in several Chevrolet models, A, B, F bodies.
