so i want to shave and repaint my firewall, is it easier to pull all the front sheet metal and engine anf tranny or to just pull the hood and fenders and pop the cab off?

my gas tank has been relocated so i dent need to wory about fules lines,

it seems to me that all i would need to do is unbolt the booster, unhook the wiring at the fire wall, disconect the heater hoses and the throtle and clutch linkage and speedo cable and un bolt the cab. am i rite or should i just pull the motor?

for best results and to protect the motor i'd pull the motor and tranny// that also give you the chance to do the tranny tunnel and frame rails

My truck is in the paint shop right now. They disassembled the front end and painted each piece. They painted the firewall with the motor still in. I don't know how they got the paint where they got it, but it looks good. I'm pretty sure they pulled the booster and wiring. I can't find any tale-tell signs of a tape job. I'll post pics when I get it home.

I agree 100%. You don't want all the paint stripping, welding slag, and grind dust all over your motor and trans. Plus you will be a lot happier being able to stand in the engine bay to do the work.

If you can stand and be comfortable doing the job the better the results you will have.

Here are some picts of what we did when my truck was being done...We pulled everything out a hell of alot easier to work in there.

Big Al, I really like the look of you`re truck. I`m thinking of adding air-conditioning, either vintage air or classic auto air, and would like to know can i still smooth my firewall.

my truck has classic auto air....the lines were ran thru the inside of the fender my biggest goal was to see as little as possible which I accomplished to the best of our ability...

see the compressor on the passenger side at the bottom...

here is the evaporator area inside the cab

condenser and drier....

a/c lines and blower motor....

Alot of people in person dont even realize that the truck has a/c

That's a tough call. I'd say it depends on how close the engine is to the firewall. If you've got room to mask the engine off, you might save some work leaving it in. Of course it won't be as nice a job. Once you start down the take it out road, you'll be detailing every nut... lol
