installing CB + antenna and gun rack in a 67 K20?

I plan on installing all these things and dont want to destroy my truck.

I figure I might be able to use some sort of clamps to mount the cb under dash?

I dont want to put any holes in the cab for the antenna. can I mount it on the bed and still get good reception?

does anyone know of a gun rack that wont require me to drill into my cab to mount it?

I guess these aren't necessarily chevy specific but i know you guys care about these trucks like I do.

They used to sell the plastic racks for the rear window that clamped on and magnetic CB antennas

I have not seen that in years, not even in texas

Where can I get a set of the "Yosemite Sam" mudflaps?

I already have the gun rack and a line on a big old push bumper.

Not knowing if your seat folds forward or not, you can make your own custom gun rack that is seen through the window but attached to the seat. Just a thought................Flat67

I'm more of this thinking.
Since advertising your rifles to the public is usually just asking for issues, so why risk it and figure out a rack idea for behind the seat.

I seem to remember seeing in a catalog like Cabela's, where there was a seat cover that had rifle boots integrated into the back. Something to investigate?

Look under the dash and you should see the screws that hold the ashtray in place. They may work if you fab or modify the bracket for your CB.The gunrack is a toughy but you may find that the suction cups can be put on an old style rack. The antenna should work fine, you may need a ground.

Re: installing CB + antenna and gun rack in a 67 K20?

I made an "L" bracket and used the top two bolts on the front corner of the box to fasten it to the truck. The antennae mounts to this. The wire runs down and under the cab to come in a hole behind the seat, (fitted with a suitable grommet) then runs under the carpet and up under the dash to the CB.
On my current truck the bracket is fastened to the "headache board" and runs virtually the same way only I came up inside the passenger-side door gasket then under the windshield gasket to the overhead mounted CB.
Both whips were removable from the mounts.
I had a gun rack that had thin ends and was expandable that slipped under the upper and lower rear window gaskets. I used it for my fishing poles, but like vectorit said I don't know if I'd advertise rifles even if the rack would support a couple of them. I know some states requires that hunting firearms must be visible to law enforcement. In our trucks a behind the seat sling wouldn't be visible......tough call.
Don't listen to the rest of these guys rebel flags and Yosemite Sam flaps are not required. I resisted that urge and only use the bullet hole decal in the window

Re: installing CB + antenna and gun rack in a 67 K20?

For transmitting, you really want the antenna as high as possible and away from the metal (which is why truckers mount on side mirrors). A rule of thumb was 2/3 of the antenna above the roof line.

I had a magnet mount for the roof but it doesn't look nice. I got it at Radio Shack years ago. It left a mark on the paint when I took it off. There are also 2 in 1 antennas that will do the radio and the CB together. A friend of mine had this and it didn't look too bad and didn't require any drilling for the new hole. It was from Radio Shack as well. That was in the 90s.

I did a quick search and this site has quite a few (including magnet mounts):

Good luck.

X2 On antenna to mirror mount...
I am planning on using a mirror mount antenna. The mag mount antenna will evenually scratch your paint.

Re: installing CB + antenna and gun rack in a 67 K20?

I just installed one in my '67 C-10 but I had to drill holes. They make racks that just clip in on the window seals but I think the small back window precludes us '67 owners from using that kind. By the way, the top shotgun is legal. I've got the Class III paperwork.

Re: installing CB + antenna and gun rack in a 67 K20?

My cab still has the gun rack, fire extinguisher and cb mike holes.....if the body man hasn't filled 'em. Doubtful he has.

Wanna buy the holes?

Seriously, I put an 8-ft whip on the back bumper "back in the day", but I've also used magnetic base antennae. If you have West Coast or West Coast Jr. mirrors, there should be mounts available at any truck stop. As for the gun mount...I remember seeing a seat cover that had a sleeve in the front of it, behind your legs, for the rifle/shotgun to go. All of this was back in the '70's.

The gun rack my dad used to have slid underneath the rubber at the top and bottom of the window. They had slotted holes with bolts & wing-nuts through them so you wedge them in and tightened the wing nuts and they worked fine. His held a 243 Savage Lever Action and a Browning A-5 Just in case we ran across a Pheasant or a Deer.

The rack itself doesn't seem to. I have to admit I haven't actually drove it with any guns in it yet. My seat is pretty broken down (if my seat cover is any indication) so i sit pretty low too. Being as how my door locks don't work, this will be a seldom used accessory. I will report back after the first time I drive out to the country or the conservation club with artillery.
