For transmitting, you really want the antenna as high as possible and away from the metal (which is why truckers mount on side mirrors). A rule of thumb was 2/3 of the antenna above the roof line.

I had a magnet mount for the roof but it doesn't look nice. I got it at Radio Shack years ago. It left a mark on the paint when I took it off. There are also 2 in 1 antennas that will do the radio and the CB together. A friend of mine had this and it didn't look too bad and didn't require any drilling for the new hole. It was from Radio Shack as well. That was in the 90s.

X2 On antenna to mirror mount...
I am planning on using a mirror mount antenna. The mag mount antenna will evenually scratch your paint.

Drove out to the range with an SKS and a K98 Mauser in the rack Sunday afternoon. No obtrusion of my head or shoulders and no police chase involved.
