big block picture
Ok Guy,
Lets see some pictures of your big blocks in your trucks I need some Ideas for my conversion.

Here is my recent 454 swap, still isnt done, I need to sort a different air cleaner base to use a stock tall small block air cleaner, and likely swap out that vacuum secondary, for a double pumper.
Might try to start on a stroker 496 to swap in also, this is a new motor, but who doesn't like more power. |

Is this just a preference? I bought a vac secondary 750 cfm Holley based on a few recommendations from people. I am building a 468 for my truck. I am not questioning your decision just curious since you have experience with it.

baclay9, the one in the pic is a 750 also. I guess in some ways its more of a preference, the vacuum secondary can be tuned to run good, and will probably get better gas mileage if you're in the back two barrels a lot, but if you're running a big block in a daily driver, usually gas mileage isn't a main concern, and unless you're really getting in it, the back barrels don't come into play that often. Or atleast that's how I drive/see it.
The vacuum secondary model is good, but it lacks a metering plate for the back barrels, and relies on different weight springs for tuning them also. It also lacks the second accelerator pump. With the vaccum, it will only open as far as the engine needs, not giving it excess air or fuel, or atleast in a perfectly set up condition, that would be its only benefit. Myself, I like a direct mechanical linkage to the back barrels, the ability to jet and adjust the back, also the improved idling circuit, plus the second accelerator pump gives it a bit more kick. Granted tuning a double pumper can be a pain at times also. I'm pushing the edge of lean on my motor now, right around 460ci at .030 over, and has a mild cam, I haven't cared to pull a bowl and check the jets, as the carb just came with the rebuilder. Its probably getting ditched as soon as I feel like cleaning up a 850 double pumper. |

The fan shroud sticker............Folks kept asking me if the motor is a 572, no, it's a 454. So, I had a sticker made that says, "572 CLONE", gets a lot of laughs.

S10Fan, nice looking engine bay. Are you running a brake booster?
Snagged a hydroboost unit for my truck tonight, figure it will give me more clearance, plus they just look sexier than vacuum boosters. |

Wanted something different so stainless tubing was called to duty. I used TIG rod to make a pattern then had them bent at a local industrial supply shop. Ran me right at $40.00 for both sections including the bend labor.

There has to be more Big Blocks in squares on here. I have my eye on a 454 that is in my jobs shop truck. It's an 89 3/4 ton and we use it to pull diesel school buses around the yard. That truck will not quit. I need to get a pic of it.
