Carbon Fiber Heater Delete

So I have been trying to get the factory style heater delete parts repopped, but I am having a heck of a time just getting anyone to make the stamping dies for me. So... I have started to think about making them out of carbon fiber but I don't know if it's a good idea. I am planning to do some for myself, (heater, blower hole, and clutch rod) but wanted to gauge if there was any real interest. At the very least it would look cool. I know I am going to get a lot of different opinions, but hey, isn't that what the forum is for?

<<< They look like this.

BTW - NO! I don't drive a riced-out Honda. I just like the way CF looks when used in moderation and if it's good enough for Ferrari and Lamborghini, it's good enough for an old truck!

Re: Carbon Fiber Heater Delete

do people do the carbon fiber look on classics? I always thought that was a 'sport compact' kind of thing... like we put chrome stuff on ours where they use spray paint.

CF looks good on classics when they are all-out builds sporting a cool pro-touring look...but I do remember seeing a truck on here that had a bunch carbon fiber accents under the hood that were hand made. When reading it, I thought it was going to be pretty ricey looking, but it actually came out nice.

IMO, I wouldn't choose carbon fiber to fill up holes on the firewall, . Right now I just have some scrap sheet metal pop-rivet'd on, so maybe my opinion doesn't count as much...

Re: Carbon Fiber Heater Delete

CF isn't my first choice... I really want to make steel reproductions but die makers aren't exactly on every street, or cheap. I guess I could also do fiberglass just as easy as CF. I kinda like how the non-glossy carbon fiber looks, though. I will make one for myself first, and if the results aren't too embarassing, I will post some pics. Gonna order all the crap to make the molds and the raw materials soon - Pricey!

Re: Carbon Fiber Heater Delete

wouldn't fiberglass be a lotcheaper and be able to be painted to match as I assume 90% would want...the others could paint a contrasting style or do a Carbon Fiber overlay or metal overlay.
