Trans question.
Anyone know what type of tranny is in my 58 Gmc? it is a three in the tree behind a 235 inline 6 and is there any way to bolt a 1980 olds 350 rocket to this trans? Thanks for your help.

Re: Trans question.
I do not know when BOP (Buick Olds Pontiac) changed to the same bellhousing pattern as Chevy. Transdapt and Wilcap are two companies that have adaptors for different engine/transmission combos.

Re: Trans question.
It should be a Muncie SM 318 if its stock. The buick, olds pontiac 3 speed transmissions are not the same. You should go with a Saginaw 3 speed mid 70's it has syncro 1st and is about the same length better able to handle a 350.

Re: Trans question.
I've got a Saginaw three speed in my 48 and it is worlds smoother than the old transmissions were be they the stock ones or later style non syncro.
You don't need an adapter for that but will need a stick bellhousing for the Olds 350 (one of the BOP) units. plus the Olds flywheel. There should be plenty of bellhousings around because they had a lot of them in Firebirds but the flywheel might be a challenge although they had the Olds engines in the Firebirds too. You might even score a fourspeed in the process. Last edited by mr48chev; 07-04-2011 at 11:01 AM. |
