Rear leaf springs

I was wondering about my rear leaf springs, is there way to test if they are still “good”. Can a spring shop tell me if they will be good for a 1000 lb or 2000 lb load.
Can they be taken apart, sandblasted, repainted and put back together?

Thanks

Ken

Re: Rear leaf springs

Yes they can be taken appart and checked out. It's pretty back yard stuff. I took three sets appart, matched them up, added a #2 and 3 springs. Rides a little too stiff and I plan on removing the extra #3 spring to soften up the ride. The problem with mine was that the springs were mush and the truck would lean to one side. I found the the arches were different from left to right. Look in some of my previous posts and you can find the spring pics.

My wife fed my computer a cup of coffee and it choked along with the pics

Re: Rear leaf springs

I just purchased a set of springs, shackles, and bolts from www.sdtrucksprings.com I was going to pull them, clean them, rearch them, rebush them, but I think it's less head ache just to replace them and prolly cheaper too.

Re: Rear leaf springs

Not a bad price for the springs, till ya think about the shipping weights. Any way here's some pic of the spring build I did. Extra spring set was $10 plus new center bolt from the hardware store and some knuckle skin.

This spring set will hold an A** load more than stock.

Wondering if you could post up some better pictures of how you have all your jack stands placed under the truck to support it.

When you say #2 and 3 springs, do you start counting from the bottom or the top? Thanks.
