Stumped an need help on electronic speedo & 700r4

I've got a 1986 c10 that's carbureted and I recently had a 700r4 out of an 89' Chevy truck and it has electronic speed sensor instead of cable, so I found an instrument cluster out of a 90' suburban with an electronic speedo but now I'm not sure how to get it to work since they say it needs a DRAC but with my truck being carbureted it dont have a PCM so how can I get the electronic speedo to work?

i may be wrong but i do not think you can use the e-speedo.

however you could just change the gear on the tail housing to the manual speedo gear and be done with it. if you do get the e-speedo working i would very much like to know how. i also have an 86.

Izzy is right, the easiest thing to do is pull the tail housing off and take the reluctor ring off of the output shaft and install a speedo gear. You will also need a speedo cable drive for the tail housing to go in place of the speed sensor. Good luck.

Thanks for the input. There has got to be a way I can make this work. If I bought an autometer speedometer an just connected it to the speed sensor wires would it work properly I wonder?

Thats what I did when I had a 5lm60 in my truck, it was a 2 prong speed sensor,
one prong was ground and the other was the signal wire. Now my nv3500 has a 3 prong and I cant get it to work lol. Another option is this

You can use an VSS and electronic speedo without a ECM/PCM.

If you are carbed, this is what you need to drive an electric speedo. They are easy to find in 92-95 Chevy/GMC full size trucks, its a white box mounted under the ECM. Make sure you take the pigtail as well.

Easy to wire it too. Just de-pin wires you won't be using and braid together the VSS sensor wires to prevent interference. Connect 12V+ switched thru a 2A fuse, ground, and the C15 VSS output to the speedometer input. Calibrate the box using the method above, and done. Way cheaper ($5 if the junkyard even charges you) and guaranteed to work correctly vs the universal Dakota Digital method for $89.

Malibu do you know if it matters if the truck is a diesel or gasoline?

Re: Stumped an need help on electronic speedo & 700r4

I don't think it would matter, since all 88-98 trucks used an electronic speedometer. If it's a 92-95, and has the white box you should be ok.

Re: Stumped an need help on electronic speedo & 700r4

There is a unit called Cable-X it converts the electronic signal to mechanical . Runs about 300 and comes with a new short speedo cable. This keeps the stock dash and speedo.
