I have the antenna that's in the windshield has anyone ever gotten a regular fender mount antenna and used it instead of the window

I did and now I'm sorry.
I have a hole in my fender I need to weld up and do body/paint work on it.
I will spend the money for a new windshield if I ever get another stereo for the truck.

Yea I would go the new windshield route, I know around here in Houston you can get a brand new one for right around $100, well worth the money in my opinion.

I put the antenna in my fender and with the reception that is available in the middle of Kansas, I am not sorry that I did it. However, I am running a Sirius XM setup, now.

I have a related question. I have preexisting fender antenna that was missing. I have the replacement, but how does the cable get routed into the cab? Cable is too short to run to center of firewall where existing openings are.

My 79 has a drivers fender add on,it's just an 3 foot extention (same in/out).

Where is the "same in/out"? Is there a hole in firewall behind fender?

Computer controlled trucks have a rubber grommet just behind the passenger valve cover on them.

i meant the same type of plug in/out ,some make them into adapter wires (too)

The hole for my antenna, is on the right hand side of the cab just behind the door opening. The antenna cable feeds down from the fender and along the cab to the point where we made the hole. Once inside you can purchase a short extension to reach your radio, if needed. You do not want to run the cable close to your ignition components, if possible. That would possibly give you interference in your radio reception.
