Ok, Gotta Get Into the Dash.....

I've got a number of things inside the dash I need to get to fixing that have been driving me nuts for a while now and I don't know how to get it apart properly. I have lights out in the gauge cluster and heater controls so I need to know how to remove that. Next thing I need to fix is the radio, it's not hooked up to any speakers (I don't even know if they're still in there) and goes out intermittently so I need to check for a loose connection somewhere. I've gotten as far as the trim that goes in front of the gauges but beyond that I don't know how to get the rest of the dash apart or even how to get the cluster to come out. I'm a visual learner so anyone with pictures would be great, if not I can deal. Any help would be appreciated......

Just look around guages and dash for screws to take off and start moving it around to see if it's loose to figure out where it's getting hung up shouldn't be to hard

Yeah, you're past the tough part, actually. Just remove all the 1/4" hex drive aluminum screws. The next pieces off are the mask, then the lens, then the shift indicator, then the gauge basket. For the basket, there is one connector into the back of the cluster, plus the speedo cable (unless yours is electric speedo, don't know).

The heater controls do not need to be removed to replace the bulb. You can do this from underneath. The light in the heater controls is a bulb in a socket on a pair of wires. The socket just pops out of a hole in the back of the heater controls.

All right. It's the warmest day we've had here in the better part of a week so I want to take advantage while I can. Spent so much time getting my buddy's truck up and running again that I haven't spent very much time on my own!

I replaced a burned out bulb in my 85 cluster the other night. I had a tough time getting the cluster out because the speedometer cable was tight and wouldn't let the cluster move forward enough to reach behind and unhook the cable. I ended up taking the little cable support bracket off that is on the firewall under the steering shaft. I pushed enough "slack" back through the cab. That gave me plenty of room to unhook the cable. Hope this tip helps.

It does, thanks a lot. I need to get a-hold of a factory service manual. I've had one for all my Cadillacs in the past and for my Fleetwood. I can't seem to find one for my K10 that isn't some stupid amount of money......
