Re: CL NOS 72 only tow hooks

I briefly considered buying them to have them duplicated at a forge (without the GM part number) and print money! But then people might only want the NOS units...

Re: CL NOS 72 only tow hooks

There was someone else on here recently that was checking into having them repoped also.

I actually expected them to go even higher, being NOS and on Ebay. I've seen them sell for $600 on this sight !

I might have to cast a pair. That's crazy! I'm going to weld the nuts to the bolts that hold mine on!

Re: CL NOS 72 only tow hooks

I have a pair of the 72 only hooks that will be going on my truck, but I bought then several yrs back before they went crazy. As others have said this is a part that being NOS just doesn't matter. As long as any repops are made strong enough so if someone uses them they don't brake, I'd be fine with them.

I'm pretty sure what your insurance company would say, and I don't think you would like it.

I think I saw your truck parked in the lot behind shell on lone tree a year or so ago... and the first thing I noticed were those hooks!

Re: CL NOS 72 only tow hooks

Those things are crazy! For me though, that is one part where I could care less about it being NOS. I could see wanting body panels that were NOS (excluding parts like rockers and wheel wells because the repops fit perfect) and even some other highly visible parts, but for hooks that are underneath your truck, where no one will know NOS from repop?

I completely agree. If the hooks were to be re-produced and of decent quality I couldn't care less if they were nos or OE or aftermarket.

Plus they're only NOS until you slap them on. At that point they're no better than a nice pair of refinished OEM. What the value is I have no idea, but NOS are worth $586, with shipping

Re: CL NOS 72 only tow hooks

If I found a decent (ha) deal on as set of these I would make a mold and make a set out of plastic. Paint em up all metal looking and mount them on my truck. I would never use em anyway, and then I would just resell the real ones

Re: CL NOS 72 only tow hooks

Yeah, how can you tell the difference between N.O.S. tow hooks and an undamaged pair sandblasted and painted? If you don't paint the N.O.S. you couldn't tell the difference either. I think it's foolish to pay so much for these hooks if they aren't on the original SPID. I figure if someone reproduces these, the price should be about $75. They're just cast iron hooks. But people want the original look and will pay extra. The originals will stay high for those who need them to restore a truck per SPID.

I used to have a running ad in Pickups & Panels in Print (mag for National Chevy GMC Truck Association) for factory tow hooks and K/20 hubcaps in the early-90s. I know it was a long time ago, but we were doing these trucks back then paying good money for good rare parts back then, too. I had a member send me a pair of new take-off hooks off his '72 Blazer he bought new. He took them off to mount the Hickey guard. Not only did I pay $35 shipped for them, but they showed up freshly sandblasted. That was a killer deal, I would have paid way more than that. The vibe back then was GM truck lovers helping one another out. Things have changed now that the masses have caught on.

Yea, I sold a pair of 67's or 68's a few years back, they were sold to me as NOS and I didn't question it, they looked great although a few minor scratches that matched with the opposite hook from rubbing together. When I sold them as NOS the buyer went ballistic at first, saying they weren't NOS. I just told him to look at them really close, including the mounting holes. He kind of agreed after that, but with hesitation.

It can be a fine line, I mean most products sold today are considered used if they're not sealed in original packaging, right?

Since Apple has discontinued manufacturing/selling the iPhone 3, anybody want to buy a NOS iPhone 3??

Re: CL NOS 72 only tow hooks

There was someone about 6 months or so ago that was going to try and get some forged. He needed so many people to commit

Then someone got all legal on him talking lawsuits and it's been quiet since. But it really shouldn't be all that difficult to repop these but that would also imho cause the OE to loose their luster some

Here's a repop idea......someone produce a OER vapor canister already.

That's why I didn't post it on here until the auction was over. I didn't want to screw it up for someone by getting a bunch of guys bidding it up!

Angry mob of Old timers /old farts/ geezers ??, You kids should realize many of the questions you come searching answers for come from us old timers ! We have been building these trucks since they were new ! Not just since they're the latest fad.Just keep cutting them up those frames dropping them on the ground and sticking 500 hp into a stock 50 year old frame and tossing the original parts away so our OLD TIMERS stock trucks will turn into gold faster !
