Re: CL NOS 72 only tow hooks
Yeah, how can you tell the difference between N.O.S. tow hooks and an undamaged pair sandblasted and painted? If you don't paint the N.O.S. you couldn't tell the difference either. I think it's foolish to pay so much for these hooks if they aren't on the original SPID. I figure if someone reproduces these, the price should be about $75. They're just cast iron hooks. But people want the original look and will pay extra. The originals will stay high for those who need them to restore a truck per SPID.
I used to have a running ad in Pickups & Panels in Print (mag for National Chevy GMC Truck Association) for factory tow hooks and K/20 hubcaps in the early-90s. I know it was a long time ago, but we were doing these trucks back then paying good money for good rare parts back then, too. I had a member send me a pair of new take-off hooks off his '72 Blazer he bought new. He took them off to mount the Hickey guard. Not only did I pay $35 shipped for them, but they showed up freshly sandblasted. That was a killer deal, I would have paid way more than that. The vibe back then was GM truck lovers helping one another out. Things have changed now that the masses have caught on.
