C50 Rear Brake Help
The rear end in this C50 is not original. It seems to have a heavy duty 15K lbs or 17K lbs dual speed axle...year unknown.
I'm replacing the wheel cylinders. The problem is that the brakes don't seem to match any shown in any of the 67-72 manuals. It may be that there is simply missing parts courtesy of the previous owner. Take a look and see if you can ID these brakes. The Star adjusters which adjusts the brakes have no mechanism to kick them tight. The upper and lower halves are mirror images of each other. The top has an unusual spring clip around the star adjuster threads. No matching clip on the bottom. In the last picture is a strange piece that does not seem to do anything. Perhaps pointing to missing parts which attached to it. If there are missing parts, I'm probably screwed as I doubt I would find anything for this old thing |

Re: C50 Rear Brake Help
I believe this is a pretty good match.
This is from the 1967 shop manual. It does appear that I'm missing: Actuating Lever Return Spring Over ride spring Over ride Lever Anyone know where I can find some replacements? |

Re: C50 Rear Brake Help
Carlson seems to have all the hardware kits. This one looks about right.

Re: C50 Rear Brake Help
I do see a difference between the Manual photo and my setup. The bracket with the two large bolts that supports the star wheel, looks like a stamped piece of steel in the picture, where as mine is a thick cast piece. But maybe is just because the manual picture is so perfect and mine is a rust mess.
What is the acutal model of this rear end? If I knew, I can search ebay. Also, the kits on ebay are listed as left or right.....but I don't see any parts in the picture which are just for left or right. What am I missing? Last edited by split; 09-06-2017 at 10:42 PM. |

Carlson lists a lot of kits. I'm pretty sure that you can find just what you need.

Re: C50 Rear Brake Help
Carlson has no listing for a ~70 C50. I have emailed them.
FYI, the H3510 is the left, and the H3511 is the right. But from what I can tell, these are for 1979 and later. Last edited by split; 09-07-2017 at 10:46 AM. |
