Gov bomb went boom

My brother's stepper.

The 12 bolt gov bomb died.
I had a spare 10 bolt with a 3.73 gear
So that's in til the 9 inch gets here from quick performance
Fun Saturday project.

I agree, I got an Eaton Truetrac for my 8.5" 10 bolt and it's great. I paid an experienced old timer to set mine. It feels like rear tires claw around corners on punch it. A mechanic friend recommended Truetrac and I'm glad I did it.

Cool Re: Gov bomb went boom

I think that's what he got ordered, rotor to rotor from quick performance.
I have a detroit locker in mine and told him not to get one.
Clunk bang and the wiggle when you lift.

Re: Gov bomb went boom

I went from open to Trutrac in the K5 rear last summer. It only snowed once this winter and with new BFG ATs it felt good on the street. Wet pavement turns from a stop are the biggest difference I have noticed. I will do the front some day.

Kinda funny the only actual ford parts will be the brakes.

I've already put one under my 73 but with a detroit locker.
And it has a few bad habits.
3.82 locker 31 spline moser axles 1350 joint
Been bomb proof so far

Great looking truck. What caused the final demise? A hard launch, or just getting on it a bit? I have one of those and I don't treat it like a ticking time bomb, but I don't baby it either. 72C20CC, that set-up you've got looks like art.

Re: Gov bomb went boom

Believe a donut or 5 may have been its demise.
And it was a used locker with a recent re-gear from 4.56 to 3.73-

Haha, yep, I'll bet donuts'll do it. Maybe I'll just eat mine, not drive them for now.

It's been my curse for the most part I tend to get overly fussy when I'm doing things. The QP center housing was used not sure if they still are ,the tubes were new . There were some pits in it so I filled them and used DCC black .

That looks really nice. The innards look like jewelry too. I hear you, too nice can be too much time and effort. But I personally also have a thing for details. Now if you start wet sanding that thing, we might have to tell you to get out from under there, haha.

Re: Gov bomb went boom

I went to wipe the oil up from a recent oil change and wiped paint off.
And I'm about re gear mine for something more tolerant on the highway and fight the urge to not pull it out and powder coat it and and and....

Re: Gov bomb went boom

Yeah, the Gov-Loc is a helpful unit if you play nice with it. I've only had them in 8-lugger work trucks I was kind to. Only engaged when needed in the soup. In a half ton? No thanks, no fun. I've used an Auburn Gear in a 12-bolt and was very happy all the way around. That Ford rear with Tru-Trac will allow him to have his fun
