Re: what am i doing wrong

You still need to pull a vacuum on you system to get the freon in. You will need to rent, borrow, or buy a pump to do this.

Re: what am i doing wrong

I would call it above the compressor yes, plus it is the only port that you can hook to with regular charging hose. Pressure side is a larger fitting. Having said that did you remove the plastic cups that block the intake and outlet on the back of the compessor where the main hoses bolt to the compressor and put pag oil in it before the install?

Here is one on Ebay. They are usually pretty cheap. Not sure on the quality of this item. I usually use an electric unit.

Re: what am i doing wrong

hummm. I have done this same thing before with little to no problems. If you need a vacuum to get it to take freon, then why can you recharge a system that has leaked out? No vacuum there. The vacuum pump is for recovery, is it not?

Re: what am i doing wrong

If you still have some freon left in there and the system was not opened, it will usually take freon. I have had better luck putting a vacuum on the system first. The pump is also not for recovery, basically it just removes moisture and puts vacuum on the system.

Re: what am i doing wrong

Cool. Never done it that way on either a new pump or used pump install, but I will have to try it next time if it works better.[vacuum on the system]

Re: what am i doing wrong

I just normaly read the posts but when an a/c question comes up I will jump in. If you do not pull a complete vacuum on the system you will not get all of the moisture out, Also the vacuum will get all the air out. The air contains nitrogen which is a non compressable gas, with the nitrogen in the system it will heat up cause a higher than normal head pressure and it might work for a time but it will quit. here in Houston, Texas you can rent a vacuum pump from AutoZone. I have repaired many a/c's here and pulling the system down is key. PM me if you have any questions

Re: what am i doing wrong

went to the parts stores asking about a vaccum pump, and could I just pour the pag oil in the compressor since mine was not sucking it in, and they were no help they were asking dumb questions like do you have the air condition on and was I on the low side. Is there anywhere around Nashville that I can go and let the do it pretty reasonable

Re: what am i doing wrong

paaw, the advice you got from basicfish is right on. One other thing is if the system was open to atmosphere for any amount of time the dryer will need replacing. It will be contaminated and not work. Heres a link that might be of help charging your A/C. Goood luck.

Re: what am i doing wrong

the vaccum pump is to pull a vaccum to pull unwanted moisture and to see if it will hold (any leaks). As for as the oil is concerned you can buy freon with the oil in it. you need to make sure you have the right oil and not to put too much.
