Re: New guy with truck
I have a question, I had my Buick roadmaster drive shaft cut and rebalance and I just installed it today, when the shaft is in the tranny how far back can it go, is there a set spot, if I put the shaft all the way in the tranny it gos back 1 and a half inches to the u joint. Is that to far back???

Re: New guy with truck
You should have about 4" minimum total travel before it falls off the trans output shaft, so 1" or so sounds about right unless you have a lot of rearend travel that will push it in more.

Re: New guy with truck
52 yes it did thanks for your help,I cut a hole in the frame and then reinforced it. I all so made some straps and got it all in there the only thing with the sending unit I had to make a ring for the hold down. The Buick was bigger with 6 holes and the camaro had 5 holes.

Re: New guy with truck
You've come a long way with the truck, cab looks great! I'm a little concerned about your rear suspension though, do you plan to add some extra bracing on those control arm mounts? Not trying to knock your work, just want it to be safe.

Re: New guy with truck
Your progressing along very nicely. You can get a gallon on Shop Line brand Epoxy Primer and catalyst for around $105. Its a PPG product that is similiar to DP 90/50. It comes in gray, black and I think maybe white, not sure on the white. Shop Line is more of a cheaper line. I have used it allot and it works pretty good. Use a good carbon filter paint mask. These primers/paint can really mess you up, w/isocyanates, so use all possible safety precautions. I buy my materials from APS, Automotive Paint Specialties, they have one in Portland.
I also think you should have someone with some fabricating skills look at your trailing arm mounts. The vertical strength may be adequate, but I'm not sure on the horizontal strength. Like Bob said, not trying to dog your work, just make sure you and your loved ones riding in this are safe. Keep up the good work, and continue to learn. Scott |

Re: New guy with truck
Need some help with the location of the tips of the frame?????? How far forward under the lower grill bar if at all? Does the grill bar ride on the frame? is the radiator core support the only thing holding up the front clip???

Re: New guy with truck
Well after running in to some issues with my camaro sub, like my front end not being low like I wanted it. I installed it straight on to my frame looks nice but to high. And clearance issues with ac pump. I decided to start over with frame and sub. First I bout a new straight 56 frame for $ 20.00 and I am going with the 1994 buick roadmaster sub, lt1 will be at home........for hight I am ofsetting sub to frame by 3" that should give me the look I want....... Pics soon......
