for whatever reason i made 2 marks on the subframe to measure off of? Its been long enough now i cant remember what mark is correct. Im measuring from the beam tacked onto the frame.
im doing mine without a cab so ive kinda lost my center line for the front wheels.
This is why Im needing the measurement off yours. lol.

Looks good! Yours looks like it will make a much cleaner transition than mine has, and probably stronger too!

Here is the measurement that I got, keep in mind that the oblong hole in the pic is under the camaro body mount on the subframe. That mount WILL interfere with the cab so you might as well cut that out of the way now. Anyways, the measurement comes up to right at 7 1/4" to the front side of the cab mount bracket. Here's a pic to show you how I measured it.

hey thanks! now im back on track
looks like i planed on pulling the sub frame in about 1 more inch than yours .
can you tell me how close your cab floor boards are to the sub frame? Im hoping i have room to bring it in that extra inch.

You "should" have enought room for the subframe to fit if you bring it back another inch, but the distributor will be in the firewall if you use the factory Camaro motor mounts. If you look at the picture of my truck with the fenders on it, the wheels are centered almost perfectly in the front wheelwells. When I measured off of the centercap of the wheels, they were less than 1/8" forward of the centerline of the opening in the fender.

are you running an HEI distributor? how much room are we talking about here for clearance for the dizzy?

Thanks FRENCHBLUE72, I'm liking your truck too.

Yeah, I'm running a HEI. I can't get an exact measurement right now due to the fact that the cab is off again. But I can tell you that it probably isn't more than 1.5" to 2" away from the recess in the middle of the firewall. I can get the cap on/off, but I did not try to pull the distributor out while I had the cab on. You can always move the engine forward a little and make/modify your motor mounts if you like. I personally like having the engine sitting as far back as possible because of weight distribution reasons.

I should have my cab back on this week sometime because I took a week of vacation just to work on the truck, although I have a funeral to go to tomorrow and Monday.

im trying to figure out why my measurement is off an inch from yours.
I will see what my wheel bass under my 69 is and compare it to yours.
your wheels look very centered under your truck, mine look further back.

The original front axle centerline is not lined up with the center of wheelwells, that's probably why your measurement is off from mine, if you based your measurements off of original.

Yea the measurement I have was what the frame had originally I added about 2 inches to center the wheels in the wheel well.
Its weird that the stock setups were so far back from the center line of the wheel opening.

Looks like it is right at 116" on the wheelbase with it in the aired out position.

measured the wheel base on my 69 and its right around 114" but thats with a 6" static drop on a flip kit.
Anyways Im glad i checked with you about that 7.25" measurement, otherwise I think I would have been too far back. I'll keep you posted on my progress as well.

any progress on your end?
I haven't done much. Im also working on a 64 chevy II at the same time. I flip back and forth from both.
I got the day off today so Im going to attempt to grind and cut more of my frame back. Its suppose to be close to 100* today and I'll be in direct sun so we will see how long I can hang.

ok so I almost got it where it needs to be. Right now I need to bring it back another 1/4 to get it @ 7.25" from where u measured. Its 7.5".
I spent a few hours outside in the sun until it got WAY to hot. I then moved a bunch of stuff around and stuck the frame under my tarped enclosure. hit 102* out here today and I went through a whole gallon of water. lol
the reason I left the body mount brackets on the f baody frame is for measuring purposes. The smaller hole off to the side of the bigger hols is actually an alignment hole.

Definately leave the pics on here, if anybody else is considering doing this, your pics will definately help them too.

I need to get some more pics up on here as I getting closer and closer to getting it on the road. The sad thing is as I get closer to my deadline to have it running and driving, I take less and less pics due to the fact that I'm running out of time.

got it all cut and ready to weld now.
I took it back to measure 7" exactly, hole to cab mount bracket.
getting this cut was very time consuming indeed.






I welded up the seams on the sub frame that will be hidden once i plate the inside section. I plan to weld all the seams once its been blasted next week.
