Re: Can a black engine look good?
FWIW, I remember doing the experiments in science class some 30 years ago & was very surprised to see the black containers lose their heat quicker than the silver ones. We timed the heat up cycle to boiling point then we removed the burner & took temps at matching intervals during the cool down. It was pretty surprising just how long the silver containers stayed hot/warm compared to how fast the black one cooled down. The black did heat up quicker too but the silver took longer.

Re: Can a black engine look good?
I really like the black finned look. I may go that way when finished. I just have the chrome air cleaner now because I needed one quickly.

Re: Can a black engine look good?
Agree!! The other thing that makes a lot of these black ones POP is the great contrast of body color on firewalls and/or inner fenders. The combos really set the motors off nicely without making things ultra flashy. Some "tough" looking setups you guys have. The dual carb breathers with fins look awesome too - very nice finishing touch.

Re: Can a black engine look good?
Mine always end up black with a crusty texture no matter what color they start! It looks great when it's paint making it black. It definitely dissipates heat.Besides, these things have radiators and water pumps for cooling.Makes you wonder why radiator tanks are always black, doesn't it?GM did it,so it must be ok.
