Always!! it's the only way to go for me, engine blocks look best in black it also accents all the shiny stuff.

Re: Can a black engine look good?
yup!! that looks great. Only problems with a black engine is the black will retain heat and you won't be able to see leaks as well (OK that alst one might be a positive)

Re: Can a black engine look good?
Actually, black absorbs heat quicker but will also shed heat quicker. GM went to black motors quite some time ago - either before center bolt valve covers or at that time so at least mid-late 80's.
It looks great in your mostly hugger orange looking compartment too. Showing off the shiny stuff is a nice bonus. Real sweet engine bay!! ![]()

Re: Can a black engine look good?
I think it looks great! I thought black absorbing heat vs white reflecting heat had to do with when light was shining on it, like if it were sitting in the sun. I could be wrong its been a year or two since I was in physics.

Re: Can a black engine look good?
Looks great.
The 454 in my '71 is black. The '70 250 in my 67 is orange. The '67 250 spare engine is what looks to be original blue. My son likes to paint all the engines in his trucks black. They painted my grand daughter-in-law's 350 in her '73 El Camino pink, gives me chills to think of that color on an engine, lol.

Re: Can a black engine look good?
gkesseru,
Your engine compartment looks great. I really llike it. That said, I still like the silver (or Endurashine!) intake manifold and polished or chrome valve covers. Plus, they have the benefit of making the truck run faster! ![]() |

This one is really dark blue, but at first glance it looks black.
