Hey hardwaa, how did you attach your tubs to the bedsides? I'm doing to be doing something similar soon except I'm just going to leave the center of the bed floor open. Looks good!

Re: Post your Bed Wood/Metal - Customized/Modified or Stock
I used (2) pieces of 3/4" pressure treated plywood for the bed floor. Functionality on a budget and not beauty was the goal. The center seam is covered by a stainless bed strip and the wood is attached to the bed around the perimeter with carriage head bolts.
Used Thompsons Waterseal to seal all the plywood and painted all the bed angles and other surfaces that contact the wood. Cut wood for the wheel tubs and fabricated supporting steel inside the wheel tubs for the wood. A full size long bed rubber bed mat was then cut down to fit my widened mini-tubbed short bed. The mat is about 1/4 inch thick and is very heavy. Last edited by lakeroadster; 02-13-2011 at 08:57 AM. |

Re: Post your Bed Wood/Metal - Customized/Modified or Stock
I just mounted it on the top. Routing with plywood would likely lead too problems since the plywood is laminated.

That's what I was thinking but wondered if there was an alternative I wasn't aware of....

Re: Post your Bed Wood/Metal - Customized/Modified or Stock
not a very good picture but here is my bed i built on a budget. I used 1" nom pressure treated pine boards. Cut the grooves in with my buddies table saw w/ a dado blade. I thought it turned out pretty decent and i can still use it to haul stuff..

Re: Post your Bed Wood/Metal - Customized/Modified or Stock
I spent a better part of the weekend planning out my bed. I hope to get started on it in the next few months with the intent of having it all done in time for the frame swap.
Some great ideas already posted. Mine is a little different, but should fit in well.
