Meatman, I sure do like this truck. I know I'm going to enjoy watchin this thread. Your truck is complete, original and straight. It's a great start. Vermillion poly (maroon) is my favorite color. What are your plans for the paint? The clean up looks Great!! Nice Truck!!! Subscribed!!

Re: 68 C20--->Red Velvet

Plan is to clean it up the best I can and drive it the way it is for a while. I want to eventually tear it down to a frame and do a complete resto. I don't have room in my garage and or time to do it right now. Plus it will have to stay out at my dads in his barn, I dont have room here. Will be moving prob within 5 years and plan on having more shop space and time to do it then. Course who knows. I do know for sure, this truck will not be going anywhere. Way to cherry to part with and it exactly what I have wanted for a looong time, straight out of the barn!

But right now Im just collecting parts to get it running and drivable in the spring. Have some already and more needed still. Will be posting little details here in there in the thread to tease, so stay tuned!

Re: 68 C20--->Red Velvet

I knew I wouldnt have time right now to get the truck going and with winter approaching working on it in driveway would be lame. I couldnt bring myself to kick one of the cars out of the garage for winter either and having a third vehicle in my driveway with our two daily drivers is a major pain too.

Was going to take it out to my dads but he said he didn't really want it in his barn not running. Luckily my father in law has a house that he is remodeling to filp. It just happens to have a 6+ car garage. He said I could keep it there over the winter no problems. So on the trailer she went right before Halloween. This will give me time to hoard parts over the winter.

Pretty awesome looking rig!

Re: 68 C20--->Red Velvet

Diamond in the rough it is. It sure cleaned up nice. The pics of it on the trailer are cool. You're a kind man, treating it to an enclosed space over winter like that. Fix it and drive it, you'll be glad you did.

Awesome find! I'm currently restoring my grandpa's '68 C20 (haven't posted a thread yet), so it's great seeing more of these rigs

Ya we have thought about it, but its not quite where we want to be school district wise. Plus I have a pretty good feeling inlaws are going to sell their house they are living in now and move into this one when its done so they can both retire.

Re: 68 C20--->Red Velvet

Looking back at the pictures, is it a CST or Custom, didn't see it on SPID? What is the emblem on driver side under C20 molding? Are those frame extensions or some rear bumper beams sticking out the back?

Awesome looking truck! Love the patina! You could also polish and then wax that paint and I'd be willing to bet it'd shine up to look like it does wet.

Re: 68 C20--->Red Velvet

Not a CST or custom, just a plain ol C20. PO had some reflector things underneath badges.

They had a camper in it for a long time I guess. They took and welded two pieces of channel iron to frame and extended bumper way out. They also welded a big piece of plate to top of bumper too. It came with truck but was junk. Gonna have to cut it all off the frame, not fun.

Once spring gets here she will get a all around detail. I think she will shine up good.

Re: 68 C20--->Red Velvet

So plan for the winter is collecting parts. First thing of concern is the split rims. Tires are in bad shape and I don't want anything to do with the old split rims, so they went to scrap. Took them to buddies tire shop and we pulled tires off. That was fun. Now I know why they are so dangerous. Took three of us at a time to pry rings off.

I have a set of some 16.5s wagon wheels layin around that took their place for time being just so I can roll it around. Looks pretty goofy cause they are about 10" wide and have some goofy tractor tread tires on them. Got them for free, they came off a brush firetruck.

But they cant be permanent of course. So after looking on craigslist for about 3 hours I found someone selling what I wanted. 16" steelies with hub cap nubs. Had to drive about 45 mins but got them for $90. They are even chevy wheels and all match, I didn't have to settle for some Fords....

Yes, looking for 8 lug. I have a feeling shipping may be prohibitive.
