Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
Here it is with a real bumper . And painting the rear bumper. If I go chrome in the front this will be painted black. Last picture shows after I touched up the scratches...
If I stay white I will patina the rear bumper...why I primered rust color under even though it was already painted...

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
Looks good jonathan, I removed my manual trans xmember with the cab bolted on but I did have an air chisel. The hard part was slicing the rivet heads. I had to use a dremel in the hard to reach areas and the slice the heads off with the air chisel and change to a punch bit to drive them out (at an angle). Then sliced the xmember in half with a sawsall to make it easier to remove. It was not fun bit I got it out. I dont know if yours was a 6? but I think they mounted back farther back one hole making it even more of a pain!

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
My 5 and 7 yr olds wanted to "help" so I let them hand things to me and they also helped clean up my tools at the end...
After 10 minutes they wanted to play in the backyard so I decided to tackle a project I need to do at some point so I could watch them and swing them fro time to time. Using the 307 rear out of my 70 since it has new wheel cylinders, brakes, and main brake line. Got the rear mostly out and the rear bumper off finally after soaking the bolts in pb blaster a few times... The spring pocket bolts are really bad so I might end up cutting the spring to get that out....going to soak them and then heat them as one last try since the springs aren't sagging and I could get 40 or 50 bucks for them Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
White patina'd parts for sure and make sure to do the inner grill hoops same. My apologies to the wife but this may help for reference..
also here is the other odd custom touch rear window covering I was speaking of with push buttons all around the window frame

My vote is for white too...but I'm partial.
What wheels are on the frame in your backyard?

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
Thanks everyone. White it is! I'm going to keep an eye out for a 67-70 bumper with better patina than the one on it now...
My wife said she didn't like the color white or the way I painted over the scratches which I agre with her on that so when I find a better patina'd front I'll swap out... Found a mirror box id bought off the forum a while back....one of the mirror arms happens to match the truck almost perfectly....just need to find a mirror head that's got a patina'd white back... Truck came with this mirror style obviously and thankfully the screws are still in the door even! Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
I'm not a fan of making patina, but this situation is different. Do you think you could get the desired results if you painted, then scuffed up your current white front bumper?

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
Very cool rig. I have some Chevy "COPO" poverty caps I would be willing to let go of if you were interested. They have some dings but that adds to the look.

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
What if you blasted the bumpers and trim and painted them satin white?

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
I thought about that but want to keep them matching the white on the roof with some patina....I might go pretty paint in satin or semigloss like brnagn and some others have done but really think I want the bumpers to look 45 years old too (and the hoops/bezels already have a great patina!

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
I like where your going with this build you could say "keepin it real"
question though is the bumper on the back of the truck a factory bumper? I'm on the hunt for a rear bumper for my stepper and dont wanna use a sport bumper. I would love too have one of them big ole rear step bumpers but there tough to find any good. I must say thats the first one I seen like that.

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck
Good find on that rear painted sport bumper. I've been looking local for 2 months for a nice patina white bumper, no luck here in the Nashville area. Hell I can't even find a chrome, sport, or a step bumper for a stepside. I think I'm going to just order a new raw bumper from Top Banana and just patina it myself and forget all the chasing parts. I've spent more in fuel than what the damn bumper cost new.
