Assembly manual questions
I think I have the same reproduction 67-72 assembly manual everyone has. And I think its just kind of crappy, poorly scanned, and weird to try and find stuff in. But better than no assembly manuals.
Were the originals all in three ring binders? Is the original style reproduced or is it something that comes up for sale here on the board? Id like an original for each year over this repro thing. If you have an original from any of the years could you post a picture of what the cover and just one of the pages inside looks like. Id love to see one.

Re: Assembly manual questions
We used to keep those in the Inspection office in a series of three ring binders. There were probably six or eight binders per set, with one book being UPC 0 and 1, and then another book for UPC 2 and 3, up through 14. Each of the sections were separated with tabbed dividers.
If Production had a question we would pull out the specific section and figure out how the truck was supposed to go together. Throughout the model year we would receive updates and stick them in the appropriate section, replacing the old sheets with the new. At the end of the model year we would throw the whole thing away and start the new model year with a fresh set of sheets. K

Re: Assembly manual questions
On another forum I'm on we found the microfiche for the assembly manual for the Canadian-only 1969 Pontiac 2+2. They were literally pulled from the garbage at the GM plant in Winnipeg by a member... so anything's possible!
If you're using the truck assembly manual be sure to get the index. I numbered my pages by hand which took a few minutes but paid off many times. I only numbered the evens, figured I could deduce the ones in between!

Re: Assembly manual questions
Yeah I already printed out the index. Some of the pages in the manual just suck. Would have been nice to start with semi decent originals and make some really decent scans.

Why not get the CD version? There is a search feature in it and it works pretty good. https://www.amazon.com/CD-ROM-1967-1.../dp/B00435N4QU http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHEVROLET-GM...-/230803330817 It is my understanding that the originals have part numbers in them. LockDoc

Re: Assembly manual questions
Do you know if the CD version is just the same as the aftermarket printed version? The printed version has tons of poor scans, I would love to get away from that. And Id also like to print off the years I want without having to dig through pages of stuff I have zero interest in, such as 69's or 70's.
A nice fat all nicely printed 67-68 and the same with 71-72. Stick em in binders and away I go =)

We still use assembly manuals today, but they have been "communized" across the divisions and "Corporate Best Practiced" to the point that they are almost not helpful. One of the things that has been removed is the part numbers on the sheet. K

Re: Assembly manual questions
I had to get my eBay assmebly manual out over the weekend and I agree such a pita to find anything in particular.
When I did find what I needed the illustration was so vague I still googled it. I think it took a week or 2 for the binding on mine to come apart....much to be desired.

If you run across one of the bad pages and can take a picture of the page or post some of the relevant text I will check it on the CD version.... LockDoc
