HEI timing curve thingy

A year ago I discovered the original mechanical timing curve thing, was worn and broke. Then I discovered you cant just buy a OEM type replacement one at most parts stores unless you buy a whole nother brand new $$$$$ distributor too. So I bought a made in china "high performance" "curve kit" but It was not what I needed. The only way I could get it to not ping was to unplug the Vacuum advance, killing my gas milage. I didn't worry about that till now. The gas prices are high again at im sure one or two of you have noticed and I need optimum gas milage now, so sorry for the rant

My question is where can I get a *new* OEM curve kit?? thanks

Re: HEI timing curve thingy

This is my mechanical advance curve kit. Mr Gasket #929g http://performanceparts.com/part.php?partID=74317

I just read http://www.thirdgen.org/hei Maybe its the vacuum advance that i need. On mine is not adjustable. What is a good adjustable vacuum advance? I have to run 4 degrees retarded or suffer "3 rocks in a coffee can" detonation or drive with the vacuum capped off like I have for the last year.

Question again if you don't want to read all that: What is a good adjustable vacuum advance?

Re: HEI timing curve thingy

Thanks. Actually I had that saved that under my favorites It says to get a "vacuum advance can that is adjustable for both RATE AND TOTAL ADVANCE" IE Crane

Bought this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Brand...QQcmdZViewItem

This is adjustable just for total vacuum advance as far as I know.
I am sure it is a lot better than having NO vacuum advance, like i have now.

Should I have gotten one that is adjustable for rate too?
