thank you and yes there are....
heres the basic install of the vintage air. had the local ac shop in simi valley crimp the hoses for me (2 bucks). also started to do some wiring on the gauges, just some simple ground connections for all the lights and gauges. installed the original rebuilt gauges and skadoosh it's pretty nice. the gauges were rebuilt at north hollywood spedo. they do it thru the mail also. cost around 800 bucks but nothing can beat the originals...
and a bit of a tease i've married the tranny for the final time (please God) to the engine (the ceremony was beautiful). not before striping one of the torque converter bolts (there's always some striping before a wedding). well i had my old school machine shop guy rethread it to a larger bolt. slapped it togeather and am hoping to install it this weekend ish!!

Re: mylow53 build

I thought I was the only one to have the stock gauges rebuilt. Nobody remanufactured the '54 gauge, but I didn't like the look of the telescoped 47-53 gauge in a '54 hole. Just my personal preference. Interesting to see someone else make the same ddecision with all the aftermarket companies out there for our pick ups. BTW, nice job on the A/C install. I can't wait for my truck to be road worthy. I'll have to make a road trip down south to meet up with you and check out your ride.

Hey Greg the truck is coming along nicely.

Did you lower the mounting of the Gen II unit in order to retain a glove box?
What modifications (brackets) were needed in order to hang the unit. Mine is getting ready for paint, but I was thinking that I might want to intstal the AC unit in case more welding is needed.

Let me know

Thanks
Marc

Re: mylow53 build

marc difineatly test fit the system prior to paint. the back of the unit requires a mounting point on the firewall. if your firewall is clean you my be stuck. i haven't screwed in the glove box yet but it should fit. the unit is in the correct position according to the instructions no real mods to get it there. just the firewall bolt is hidden. i had to cut one of the firewall supports and put in a speed nut to hold it in. you want i take some picts?

In other news Jay Also known as Houston54, send me a set of used lower hinge covers. i would like to thank him for his kindness. her's what they look like jay. i still need to paint them but they fit like a charm

Re: mylow53 build

Greg--

Some pics would be great. I have a smooth (*****in products) fire wall. I now that I need to mount a bulk head but I was waiting until I get the unit. Where did you buy yours from?

I like the way yours mounts. I have a custom lower dash panel that I will mount my control unit in and it will also cover some of the Gen II unit as well.

Thanks
Marc

Re: mylow53 build

if your firewall is already painted you could use some of the new two part body panel adhesive to hold the mounting brackets, they use it to to bond on door skins and quater panels. that stuff is amazingly strong.

Re: mylow53 build

sorry it took so long to get these photos i've been lazy! anyway here they are. one thing to think about since i have the stock firewall and yours is more recessed you may need to alter the rear mount of the ac unit.

No apology needed

Thanks for the pictures. It gives me an idea of what I am in for. I could always weld a bolt to the back of the firewall if it is not in the recessed area.

The truck is looking good. I need to give vintage air a call. I already have new compressor, I just need the other STUFF.

Thanks

Re: mylow53 build

engine installed and started. over the thanks giving weekend my brother and dad helped me install the engine. we ran it with out water for a fue minutes. straight headers no muffler. my dad set the timing visually and it fired on the first crank... brad came by and tried to fix a drip on the firewall but messed up with my dull razor. no big deal i'll have several other scraches for him to fix when i'm done..

Nice....What backspacing did you go with for the front wheels and then the rear wheels? And what offset are they? Are the widths 8" front and 9.5" rear?

Thx!

Re: mylow53 build

not sure on the backspacing that was 1 year ago. if you look at earlier posts you'll see when i got the wheels. there was a mixup with the width of the rear axle and i was left using tubs and the most backspacing i could get from the manufacture. i think the rear was over 4" and i had to use a 1/2" wheel spacer to fit it. regardless you should have a pro order your wheels since every build is different. project 57 look thru the earlier posts for the tire widths i can't remember the front but the rears are 18x9.5

Re: mylow53 build

spent the last couple of days off installing parts on the 53. i took a bunch o picts. the rear is for the most part bolted up. I'm planning on installing the front fenders soon. also i just finished plumbing the power steering.

additionally i took my glide engineering seat and cushions to a local upholstery shop and asked for a rough quote. he said leather would cost 4k. needless to say i took the seat back home! guys what should it cost?
