$40K Trip to Hot August Nights

I think all new cars are great, I have bought a bunch. No car/truck is an investment. If you get lucky and sell it at a profit, great. If that is how you plan to retire or feed your family in the future, well probably not the best Idea IMO. Buy and drive what you like, enjoy them ,and if you take care of them you may not loose you @$$ on it.

I do agree that people buy things just because we can God only knows the fortune I spend on toys.The belly button 67-69 camaro are way over rated but thats a whole other discussion to each it's own.

I don't think any of us saying we don't like the new camaro is going hurt his feelings, he likes I really don't, everybody likes what they like. Personally I would take an old MOPAR over almost any old chevy, but that just me.

One thing's for sure......it's hard to beat having 425hp and still getting good MPG....whether you like the new styling or not.

I posted this elsewhere in the forum but here's the best of both. This was up at Hot Aug Nights and is built by well known pro touring builder Mark Stielow. 700 hp ZR1 motor that probably purrs like a kitten and gets 20 mpg if you can keep your foot out of it and how bout carbon/ceramic brake rotors off the ZR1 as well.....incredible car and I love the subtleness.

Anyway.....to the guy that started this whole thread.....congrats on getting a new Camaro!

Congrats on the camaro. I had the 69 in high school and drove the s@#t out of it. I told my wife I was buying the new one and went to get it. I took it back when it would'nt transform. I find it kind of funny when they make cars to look like the old ones and the old ones hold there value longer.

Yes I'm serious. I'm a Chevelle guy. Back in college I worked on (small service garage, full service gas, oil changes, water pumps, etc.) an identical Camaro to the blue one, stripe and all. Maybe that stripe went across the hood and not down the side. It was owned by an old lady in the neighborhood. Nice car, it just didn't turn my crank like Mrs. Fallon's 1972 stock, Chevelle Malibu. Mulsanne blue, white vinyl top. Stock disc brakes. Stock AC. 18,xxx miles on the odometer.

I don't remember a thing about the Camaro other than it was blue with a white stripe. I can tell you just about everything about the Chevelle including the owner's name. And I haven't seen either car for 25 years.

Its just a taste thing. I never said the car was ugly or fugly like others guys are posting. I just stated I never liked any Camaro body style until I started seeing these new ones.

Here in MN there is sort of an underground car deal that ANYBODY can get it on. Every week down in the Twin Cities there is an auto auction. Smaller dealers go there and purchase used vehicles. It is pretty common to get used cars at the auction that are less than one year old and HALF the sticker price.

The guy I know of handles it this way:
You call him with your "order". He looks at previous sales and if any similar cars were sold at auction he tells you what they went for. If that is in your price range he will scan the upcoming auctions for what you are looking for. If you don't care about color you can usually get a car at the next auction. If you do care it may take a few weeks.

The auction price on one year old cars is usually half the sticker and the guy charges $600 for the service.

Long story short, if you have one of these auto auctions around, look there in 6-12 months. I don't know what these cars will go for but if any hit that market it will be a heck of a lot less than $40k.

Now 6 years later you can pick one up for $10K-$14K.

Unbelievably beautiful car. Yeah, Chevy is lagging behind the others with their retro-version, but Camaro does stand out from the crowd of Mustangs, Chargers, Avengers and what not. Love the car. Congratulations!

Thought I had updated this Thread, but looks like I had not, and since I'll be reffering to it on another Thread (in relationship to LeddZeps post there).
My Wife decided to wait until the SS Convertables come out, so the Camaro is off the Books for now!
