Re: Look what I found
I know it's been answered before but the 55 2nd series was the 1st year for the 12 volt system. I read somewhere that the 12v generators had a red tag rivited on them and the 6v had a black one.
As for the engine swap I don't know if it was answered yet but to put a V8 in you'll have to change the bell housing as the 235 and earlier 6s had a totally different bolt pattern. They accually wraped around the flywheel. I am assuming of course that the truck 3 speed bolts up the same as the 4 speeds. I'm not familer with truck 3 spd I do know the car 3 spd (atleast in 51) had a totally different bellhousing to trans bolt pattern. That's alot of rambling but hopefully it's helpful.

Re: Look what I found
Nice truck. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's projects are years old with little hope of seeing the sun!
I'd run the I6 for as long as possible! No sense in leaving it sit for another 2 years for an engine swap...I'm at many more than that now!! Anyway, your generator should say 12V on it. Red tag should be 12V. It isn't going to charge at low speed like an alternator will so idle doesn't help, you need to drive it to keep charge flowing. And in answer to your very first question, no that truck is not desirable. You should give me your address and leave it by the curb. I'll come fetch it to relieve your pain! It is still light years ahead of my truck... |

Re: Look what I found
It was junk. It sad, the guy should have sold it 15 years ago, before it rusted to nothing. Can't believe he wanted 650. I really would'nt have given him 50.

Re: Look what I found
Finally had a great weather day on a saturday. Got the 55 "Mater" as the kids call it in the shop and cleaned out the bed for the first time since I've had it. Thanks to Shannon for the help moving it. How did you like the "armstrong steering"?
Would these wheels be worth anything to anyone or they just junk? ![]() Took the gas tank out and the aftermarket bed floor. ![]() Nice flow thru bed floor. ![]() ![]() I picked up a good used OE tank shortly after I got the truck. I plan on getting it in and plumbed with new line. ![]()

Re: Look what I found
I love the tag... I would keep the wheels and use them for hose reels and extension cord reels if all else fails

Re: Look what I found
I actually sold off my 8 lug wheels from my '51 for $100. Anything is better than nothing; it's just finding the guy that wants them is the hard part. I sat on my wheels for a long time.
Did you have to push it in? I thought that you had it running. Regardless, I'm glad to see that 'Matter' has a warm place to sleep now. britnjc, that is a good idea for the wheels though. I just got a set that I was hoping to be able to use on my '71, but they are a couple years early for me to be able to use them. The back spacin is wrong. Now I know what I could use them for if no one else wants 'em.
