Look what I found
I just went to pick this up today. It is all complete and running. Almost everything works. I couldn't pass it up. Ya'll know more than I do about it. Are the big back windows desireable? Let me know what ya'll think.

Re: Look what I found
Don't really have a plan for now. I have to finish my 65 1st. The radiator leaks and wheel cyl leaks. So I might fix those and anything else that is a safety item and then drive the heck out of it. It has alot of character right now. I'd hate to lose that to a restore right now. I want to go to some of the local cruise ins. I bet you it will get more attention than a fully restore piece. It will be parked inside soon out of the weather.

Re: Look what I found
Thanks for all the comments. This project will be a slow go for now. I'm going to get it road worthy since my 65 is at a stand still pretty much. I will post pics as I go(I love pics too).

Re: Look what I found
I got a little bit done today. I changed the wheels and tires. I had another set sitting around with a shorter tire. Boy, don't those shinny wheels and tires really make the paint shine . I also removed the radiator because of a bad leak. I'm going to try to get it rebuilt or get a new one. Enjoy.

Re: Look what I found
Question: Is 1955 the 1st year that offered a V8? If so how was it mounted to the frame? I have a 283 that I could put in it. Will the 3 spd trans bolt up to the V8? I'm sure it will, but if this is the 1st yr of the V8 I'm not sure. If anyone has pics of the V8 installed showing the mounts I would apprieciate it.

Re: Look what I found
my 55 longbed came stock with a v8. They have front mounts. They mount to the holes up by the fuel pump on the front of the block and then mount to the crossmember. They use biscut style mounts. Sorry I do not have a pic.
However if you use the front mounts and go to a rear mounting tranny (turbo 350/400/700r4) you are asking for trouble from what I have read.

Re: Look what I found
Finally getting something done. I'm redoing the complete braking system. I know it might be crazy, but I'm keeping it completely stock. I replaced the brake lines with stainless. I just found out that I need some parts for the e brake system. The lever that ties the front and rear cables together. Also need the flat bar on the rear drum brakes mine is MIA.

Re: Look what I found
Only if you do not restrain the engine from torqueing. The TH350 cases are weak at the place where the cooling lines connect. If the engine torques too far under acceleration the transmission is restrained by the rear mount and something has to give. I've run a warmed up 283 with a 350TH and 203 tranfercase (makes the problem worse, more mass holding the trans in place) for ten years on and off-road without a problem but had a cable ran from the frame to the side mount location that only allow the engine to move about 1.5". That was enough so there was not noticable "thunk" against the cable around town but worked fine when I got on it in town or was off and on the throttle climbing hills off road.

Re: Look what I found
That truck would be an awesome candidate for an updated suspension, lowered, and the body left as is. That patina you've got can't be duplicated. Guys pay big bucks to try to get their trucks to look just like yours. Good find!
