Re: dogs a$$ plus a bright sunny day = super score!!!
throttle knob holds the throttle open at a certain/desired RPM most often used to power PTO driven accessories (winch, hydraulic pump, etc.). Some guys use them as poor mans cruise control. Some guys (like me) with GOCD (gauge obsessive compulsive disorder) put them in there trucks because there is a hole stamped in to their dash and need to fill it with what was supposed to go there ....

Re: dogs a$$ plus a bright sunny day = super score!!!
Sorry I don't have any links. I can tell you the easiest way to identify one is by the intake. The tall decks have 2 thermostats instead of one. Most of them have points dist. and you can use a HEI from a SBC or BBC. Just check to make sure it has the proper oiling groove on the dist. body. Also the early tall decks had semi closed chamber heads that can help raise the compression ratio on a standard closed chamber engine by almost a full point. I believe they had the heavy duty rods with 7/16 bolts as well. The biggest difference besides the block beeing taller is that the piston is longer and has 4 rings. The rods are the same as 396-454. Another thing, a lot of times the harmonic balancer has a cast 4 pulley center that isn't removable. Hope this helps.
