dogs a$$ plus a bright sunny day = super score!!!

Just got to resizing these tonight, so here goes.... I had won the H1N1 sweepstakes and was out of work all last week with it. Spent most of the week with a fever, on good drugs, etc. etc. etc. so by the time saturday had rolled around i had to get out of hte house and do ANYTHING just to keep my sanity. So late mroing rolls around and I decide to run over to a yard around here and pick up a harness I forgot to grab for a 60-63 deluxe cluster i am refurbishing and pay the guy 20 bucks I had owed from my last trip out that way... While im out snagging the dash harness I notice 3 green 67-72 fleet trucks off to the side I had not seen there b4. This yard NEVER gets anyting new in, but a local paving company scrapped out a few of their trucks to this guy. I took a peek at them and a 1/2 hour in and out turned into a few extra hours... This is what I came home with... and as a side note i have been into these trucks for 15+ years and a member of this site for 9, and have NEVER seen 1 left in a vehicle... here are the pics...

Re: dogs a$$ plus a bright sunny day = super score!!!

I also did keep all the choke and throttle cables in their entirity(?) with all mouting brackets and bolts. I also carefully removed all the tach harnesses "gauge to coil". Takes a litttle longer that way, but I had just enuf sun that day to do it.... One of the larger trucks he had there had the truck 427 in it with a marking onthe winshield that said "stuck" although i was able to turn it over... hmmmmm... Im going to call out there tomorrow to see what he wants for that... I will be resoring the clusters and hopefully be putting htem for sale in the near future, but it takes a while to go through them properly and test everything out... I am int he process of building a gauge testing center for my work bench that hopefully will speed up the process... should be able to test the tach, ammeter, temp and oil presss gauges if all goes well.... enjoy, i need ot get to bed....

Mike, that is an amazing day at the yard. Great find!!

Edit: Don't forget that those 427's are tall decks, and not worth what car 427's are worth.

But all tall decks, 366's & 427's, have 4 bolt mains, the main caps can be installed in short deck big blocks, and have steel cranks, which can be used in 396's and 427 standard deck blocks. Plus these blocks can be bored .120+ without having the over heating issues like the short deck blocks do.

Re: dogs a$$ plus a bright sunny day = super score!!!

thanks for the compliments!!! yeah i had never seen a single tach dash in a truck before, and now three in one day... wow...

68.... Yes i did get all the manual throttles that were in tact. One of hte trucks had a home made replacement knob and cable. i did get all the correct bezels/labels, brackets for the linkage and firewall for themtoo.... I also got the choke cables and brackets too, ALTHOUGH they are for a holley carb since the correct ones were on big trucks...

On the 427 yeah i had heard thae 4 bolt main and the over bore advantages and I do know, like Shawn said, about the lower value.... They also need special intake manifolds correct??? I was just thinknig it would be a cool side project at school to refresh a real "427" in front of the kids... good pr and possibly a great grunt motor for a 3x4 4x4 project Im trying to get off the ground... I didnt get a chance to call out there today but I plan on it tomorrow... ill fill you all in....
