76 stepside fuel tank filler

Ive been going crazy trying to find a replacement fuel tank filler hose that goes from filler neck to tank. Called every parts store, searched online and no luck. Is this one hose actually going to be a dealer only item? Not sure if the dealer can even get it. Any insight on this would be great!!

Re: 76 stepside fuel tank filler

From what I remember (on here), guys have been using fuel resistant hose from various sources because GM no longer offers them.

Hopefully someone will jump in and post an answer.

Well ive checked there too. Those are not exactly the ones im looking for. Those are straight, but can bend. The original hose has 2 sharp bends in it in opposite directions to get to the filler neck. Not sure if those would make it. Looks like you have a stepside also. Would that hose work on yours? This might be an option but im trying to find an OEM hose that will fit perfect before i try and rig something.

I've been meaning to change mine out, so I'll order one and see how it goes. I'll keep you posted.

Re: 76 stepside fuel tank filler

I bought some fuel resistant hose similar to what HumbleChevyBuddy posted, it was ribbed on the out side and smooth on the inside. It was like $25 for 4 feet of it. I used about 2 feet of it on my stepside and it worked like a charm.

I never found a company that made the OEM hose for the stepsides so i used to stuff from the parts store.

What size did you end up using for this? 2", 2 1/4", or 2 1/2"?

Re: 76 stepside fuel tank filler

The stuff I used was 1 1/2". The PO had replaced the OEM hose w/a piece of radiator hose, which didn't work very well at all. The new hose was a perfect fit on the filler neck and on the gas tank.

Re: 76 stepside fuel tank filler

Thanks, i appreciate all the help. I called up Kragen Auto Parts and they had 1 1/2'' gates fuel hose in stock, which is the same diameter as the original hose. $12.00 per ft. So im gonna be heading down there right now to pick some up and see how it goes.

Re: 76 stepside fuel tank filler

So im back from Kragens. And wouldnt you know it, the hose i called about was wrong. Could not make the sharp 90* bends. So started talking to the guy, he let me go in back and look around. Found 3' of the ribbed Gates fuel hose 1 1/2'' and will perfectly make the bends. Downside : its $22.00 per foot. Guy hooked it up a little, plus i have a commercial account there. So i got away pretty cheap considering. Havent installed it yet but i know it will work. Again, Gates Fuel Fill Hose PN: 23924

Re: 76 stepside fuel tank filler

Just a quick update. Eventhough the hose was expensive, i got it in. And it fits perfect. Clears the edge of the bed and looks really good. Not like anyone will be seeing it, but i will know. It might have cost alot but for not being able to find the OEM hose, This works great. Thanks for all the help!
