Overflow tank?

I got tired of leaking all over peoples driveways after shutting off the engine and installed a 3" x 16" stainless steel tank today in my '72. Since its a driver, I'm not worried about bug meat which will be easy to clean off anyway. In this location, by proximity, it is obviously part of the radiator coolant system and makes running the overflow hose easy.

Overflow hose runs from radiator, down through hose hole in inner fender and around to bottom of overflow bottle (can see hose at bottom), but is still hidden by bumper.


Make sure to set the height below the hood's inner framework.

Do you have a front view of that? Can you see that chrome through the grille?

This is a subjective thing, so although I like the bit of flash it provides, I wouldn't say one's eye is drawn to it through the grill. You can see it more during the day than at night. If it bothers you, you could certainly black out the forward surface of the bottle. If you look at the lower picture (above) you can see the bottle through the grill. It is less noticable at night as it basically reflects black as seen in this flash photo I just took for you.

Oldgold70c10 I like where you installed your tank.
Did you have to use a different pressure cap for your radiator?
It seems I read somewhere that the tank needed to be 4 inches below the radiator cap. Is that true?
My old girl dont have an overflow tank but does have a washer fluid tank that isn't being used.
I'd thought about leaving it where its at and running a hose between the two, but like it better where yours is located.

I'll get one tomorrow. Its a fender well mounted one. Bolts on passenger side. Had to drill two holes, install hose, and the two bolts. Done.

I have this one that I bought on eBay that was for a Monte Carlo ( I THINK !!! )

I can't use it now since I installed the washer bottle for my auxiliary battery.

It fits on top of the passenger side wheel well as seen in the second picture.

( that's one similar to it, installed in someone else's truck )

I have a couple Chevy pick-pull yards close by but they don't let you walk around and pull parts. They pull them for you.

I just installed an overflow tank out of a 95 Astro van, I love it.

I can only speak for the 71-72......LH side of the radiator on the core support. The hose runs underneath the shroud held by a clip/bracket. These are difficult to find. You can get cheap from lots of places, which will work. If you go cheap, may as well use plumbers tape. Wes sells a nice one that sits on the RH fender. Bet he has one for yours as well.
