Oh the blue one, 100%

Put some nice wheels on that thing and it would be fly just as it is.

Re: Help a brother out! Im torn.......

Im near youngstown

The grille is slightly bent on blue truck. I do have a nicely weathered white front bumper, and grille, so it would match the rest of the truck.
I also have two 15x6 and two 15x8 old white steel wheels and a set of 57 chevy poverty caps. The wheels would match the weathered look as well.

I usually have a chubby over 63s, but some things about the red truck irratate me...
Needs 500 windshield, hate the shoddy bodywork over clean metal. There were a few dents and instead of pulling, they mudded. I hate **** like that.
But...its really clean for being in this part of the world. we usually deal with rotted junk.

Re: Help a brother out! Im torn.......

I'd go with the 63 myself for parts and encourage you to get the 64 for yourself. The 64 has less done to it and the 63 has already been redone and could be hiding a few things. I like to see trucks that haven't had someone's concept started. The 64 is baring all it's faults, the 63 is a mystery!

Re: Help a brother out! Im torn.......

I vote for the 63 myself, but honestly it would come down to which one I could get on the road and looking/running the way I want it the cheapest.

after seeing the pics I still say the 63 but in reality the one with the least rot would be my choice.

I am partial to 63's but the 64 does have a nice look to it , plus it does need less work...

Re: Help a brother out! Im torn.......

Normally I'd say go for the '63, but something about that truck from the pix gives me the heebie-jeebies. I don't get that from the blue one and I've learned over the years to trust my gut.
Good luck with which ever one you get.

Wow, the pics make it harder. I like the look of the blue one, but I still favor the knee knocker.

ditto on the least rot. That would be my choice (how I chose mine, too).

Re: Help a brother out! Im torn.......

I would have preferred the 63 until I saw the pics and have to say I'd go 64. It sounds like the 63 has some bondo in it where the custom trim was? So, scratch the patina approach for that one... It's either live with bondo or fix it completely. Whereas the 64 is just a 5-speed away from FUN with that straight 6. I am a v8 type - but you can stuff the drivetrain of choice in later if you must.

So, I say 64 if you want to drive it with the patina it has. If your plan regardless is to re-do and re-shoot the body on either - then go with the 63.

Re: Help a brother out! Im torn.......

I'm a 63 owner because I like the cab better but after you posted pictures I think I would go for the 64. The 63 looks a bit rougher in my opinion but both are worthy of being built and I guess you just have to go with your gut feeling. You probably already know which one you could see yourself driving.

As much as I love the knee knockers, I love the patina on the 64 with the side trim. I can see it dropped on some gangster whites with the 5speed and straight pipes.

Re: Help a brother out! Im torn.......

Just a update.
I didnt buy either of the trucks I talked about above....

I looked closer at the blue one and it was much worse than first appeared. Way too much metal work needed for price.

And as much as I like 63s, something about the red truck didnt sit with me.

So I lowered my standards some...

My 15yr old and I drove 450 miles yesterday, thru crappy snow, ice, high winds etc., plus a huge traffic jam due to ice, to grab a 64 short fleet small window. I like small windows trucks as much or more than bbw, so it wasnt a issue.
SBC/TH350, came from TN 4yrs ago. Never really driven since up north.

Has nice 6-lug old corvette style ralley wheels with gm disc brake caps. Those are headed to CL soon, not my thing....

Overall, Im happy. My kid is happy. My poor suburban is covered with tons of road salt...plus this truck ended up being alot less money to buy.

So, its home safe in garage.

What?! Me?

I did buy a 65 stepside on new years eve. Guy delivered it at 3pm, a guy looked at it at 6pm, then texted me happy new year at midnite and said he'd be to get it at 10am new years day....so I owned it for 19 hours....

Re: Help a brother out! Im torn.......

Actually, that got me thinking...

Since Dec. 14th, Ive had:

1951 Chevy 2dr fleetline fastback
1953 Ford 2dr Mainline sedan
1965 C10 stepside
1953 F100
1966 C10 LWB
and now the 64 swb I just got.

Its a sickness......

Re: Help a brother out! Im torn.......

Great find! I was going to vote for the '63 because I'm a sucker for wrap-around windshields and 327's, then I saw the pics and I liked the blue one... but then I read on and I like what you ended up with! If I were closer, I'd be very interested in those rallys.

Can't wait to see what you get next.
