Help a brother out! Im torn.......
I find myself torn between 2 trucks.. I'm not usually the type to waffle. I see it, I buy it, I do stuff and then get bored and move on. My wife says I have automotive A.D.D.
So anyway. Here's the scoop.. Truck 1 is a 63 short fleet BBW, 327 with saginaw car 4spd. Really really solid minus lower fenders. Needs windshield, and needs 4spd re-installed. Bed floor. And had all custom trim shaved so its straight but had filler where trim was. Hasn't run in 3yrs but been garaged. Truck 2 is 64 short fleet BBW, inline 6 with 3spd on floor. Great natural patina, needs both front fenders repaired, pretty solid but not as nice as 63. Runs n drives but needs gone over to solidify everything. Windshield good but rear bbw needs replaced. Have gasket. This truck has all custom trim intact. Both trucks same price. I havnt been this torn between 2 trucks in forever. Part of me likes idea of 327 with car 4spd. Fun to drive. Part of like idea of inline and swapping 5spd in. Still fun, inlines sound great with duals and will pull great mpg to daily use 9mo a yr. And patina is cool. OMG....help me..................... Re: Help a brother out! Im torn.......
Hard to say without pics but I'd have to go knee knocker with the V8 and 4 speed, though I'd rather have the trim intact, and I just don't get that whole patina thing..

Re: Help a brother out! Im torn.......
I would have loved a clean knee knocker myself. I didn't find one when I was looking.

Re: Help a brother out! Im torn.......
IMHO if you want to drive it regularly... go for the 64. an inliner with fentons or cliffords and a t-5 is fun and reliable.

Re: Help a brother out! Im torn.......
If I were in the same spot I’d be having the same issues. Both have good benefits. If I had to make a quick choice however it would be the 63 because they are my favorite of all the 60-66’s. And although I really enjoy the inline sixes with pipes and accessories, I haven’t found anything more fun than a V8/4 speed. The missing trim would be a bummer, but if the bodywork didn’t have to be done over, I wouldn’t care if it had no trim.

Re: Help a brother out! Im torn.......
well if it was me i would take the 63,i love the wrap around glass and the dash. you seem to see alot more 64-66's out there so the early ones are always cool.i like a straight 6 but a small block is hard to beat overall.if the trim holes are simply filled in with bondo and not welded in then just punch out the holes again and add trim.
the 63 sounds like more fun! |

Re: Help a brother out! Im torn.......
It sounds like the 64 would be cheaper/quicker to turn into a daily driver: runs as is, only minor body work, rear window isn't that expensive.
On the other hand the 63 will be way more fun to drive with a sbc and a four speed. I think you should base your choice on two factors: which cab you like better, and how much you want to invest. Also, pictures would be helpful

Re: Help a brother out! Im torn.......
Here's pics of both. One pic of 63 was 4yrs ago before he took stuff apart. Has scraps on sides and dents were doors over opened.
I hate to say it but I'm really drawn to blue one. Don't know what it is. Just like it. Both owners are holding for me until I decide. So gotta make decision asap. Posted via Mobile Device

Well Tim I am going to have to tough on you on this one ..didnt know you didnt own them... you have to ask your self what year you like better , if you value patina over whatever the other truck has.. and last I can bet that you would want another 63 owner to own and care for that 63 ............... what day should I pick it up?? problem solved.. lol I hope I have been of help.....

Both are nice looking.
The '63 would be my choice, but I'm kinda biased. Greg

Re: Help a brother out! Im torn.......
I'd roll in that '63. I'd put the correct grille back on it though.

Re: Help a brother out! Im torn.......
'63 w/v8 and 4 speed sounds like a winner to me too. I would HAVE to find the correct grill for it though.

Re: Help a brother out! Im torn.......
I'd go for the blue one myself, but I have always kind of preferred the 64-66. I think the drivetrain is a wash. Don’t think there is much difference in gas mileage but the 4 speed would be cool. And now a days SBC stuff is dirt cheap. Heck do a carbureted 4.8l with a 5 speed swap.
Is the grill messed up on the blue one or is it just the picture? Where in NE Ohio are you??
